Randy Couture Discusses Role in “The Scorpion King: The Akkadian”
UFCjunkie.com Exclusive
Posted by Performify on July 31, 2007
UFCjunkie.com has learned that UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture is set to star in “The Scorpion King: The Akkadian,” a major motion picture from Universal Studios.
The film will be a prequel to the 2002 film “The Scorpion King” starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, which in turn was a prequel to the films “The Mummy” (1999) and “The Mummy Returns” (2001).
“It’s my first lead in a feature film,” Couture told UFCjunkie.com. “I’m playing the Rock’s nemesis, but it’s a teenage Rock in this movie. It’s a prequel to the others, and I’m the bad warrior king. I leave Oct. 3 for South Africa to begin shooting.“
This will be Randy’s first starring role and his second feature casting since he recently completed shooting the mixed-martial-arts drama “Red Belt” for director David Mamet. “Red Belt” also stars former “Home Improvement” star Tim Allen, as well as Shooto and PRIDE Fighting Championships veteran Enson Inoue.

Thanx God that fighters' contracts has nothing to do with acting and starring in movies.. But who know? maybe in the future, UFC will ban its fighters from doing that as well..
Do you guys think his acting is any good? Or in comparison to Mirko's?

Hmmm. I hope he's a better actor than CC. I really hope it doesn't screw up his training.

This will most likely be a straight-to-video release, but I would still rent it just because Couture is in it. The only bad thing that worries me is his training.

Well i don't think it's gonna staright-to-video release.. "The Mummy", "The Mummy returns", and "The Scorpion King" were all theater movies..
But as you are, I'm worried about him not focusing on training!!

Actually depending on how much action is in the movie Randy may have a lot of training to do for the film. It wont be MMA training but it will keep him in shape. Just look at "300" and the training they had to go through for that movie. Still he needs to finish and get back ASAP and focus on his next fight

And how often do oscars get awarded to good movies??? If anything this movie has a good chance to clean up at the oscars if it turns out to be some serious B-Movie bs!

I don't know why you all are knocking it. The Rock makes tons of money with his films. The Scorpion King was a great movie if you don't go in expecting a master piece. You need to go in just wanting some action and humor.
This is great for Randy because this movie will easily do over 30m in its release at theaters. Original movie did 36m and the mummys did over 60m.

I loved the Scorpion King and the Mummy movies. They were all great, and I don't know why the Rock is getting so much hate.
I'd definitely go see this. I've never seen Couture act before, but I'll soon see.

The mummy movies were good, Scorpion King kinda sucked in my opinion, it wasn't horrible but it definetly wasn't on par with The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. I can only imagine this movie will be worse than Scorpion King which sucks for Randy.
