Chuck says he didn't pick Jardine
Chuck Liddell recentley denied that he had the choice of opponents, and that he did not pick Jardine. Pretty Interesting.......

Do you believe him?

Hughes lost his title and fought Lytle. To set him up for an immediate title shot (even though he asked for Diego) The UFC is known to lay out a red carpet for title contenders to get the big pay day in the end. The last thing they want is any big name to lose twice.
But then there's GSP-Kos and Fitch-Sanchez, risks there. I guess in the lack WW title fights they are putting top talent against each other? How profound. Whereas in the LHW they can take their time.

I think its great marketing spin.. claim you never handpicked an opponent after word gets out that you did.

I don't see your point. It's not like more people are going to watch the fight cause Chuck denies that he picked his next fight. I know it was pretty much general knowledge before these comments surfaced, but what was the original source that said he had a decision in the matter.

Jardine is one of very few fighters who could have been next for Liddell. So, I don't see any need for Chuck to pick him out. Thus, I believe the words of the Ice Man.

Maybe true that he didn't, maybe not.
But the fact remains he could have still turned down the fight if it was given to him. Why not say "No, I'd rather fight Shogun or Machida or Nakamura". A former champ shouldn't be fighting Jardine. After seeing Houston Alexander destroy Jardine, I see Liddell doing pretty much the same thing. I like Jardine, and can't stand Liddell, but I still know Liddell should be fighting tougher fighters, especially when the LHW division is so stacked.

Actually he said I thought they were going to put me up against Shogun because he was on the same card. If Chuck is telling the truth then its not his fault it is the fault of the UFC.

This has remnants of Tito Ortiz denials all over it. When Tito lost to Randy, lots of he said she said stuff going on between Tito and Dana that are still going on today.
I hope The Iceman doesent start getting into the media battles with dana that tito and dana do all the time.
Dana "Tito's a big baby. Denies everything when I have it all in writing. But, he's marketable, a good fighter, so he's still with us, that's the bottom line" - Dana on SportsCenter pre UFC 73
I hope in a year or two The Iceman isnt talked about like that by Dana.

I believe him i guess, i just think they set them to fight because they both have lost recently. In by book i want this fight to happen. Though i do think IF he did have the option to pick then i think he did pick Jardine just maybe because he thought he was a easier opponent. Though i dismiss that because the fact that they both lost and they both wanna win again. I go for Jardine

They just want to hype up Chuck and give him a KO against a decent opponent.

I believe him, Chuck doesn't seem to be the kind of guy to take the easy way out, remember this is the guy that fought Babalu when he was already next in line for a title shot.
IMO this is a very high risk/low reward fight for Chuck, I mean what does he prove by beating Jardine? Nothing at all but if he loses (which is very possible) he will lose alot of credibility. I don't see why he would ever want this fight.

True, I agree with you alot. Chuck has nothing at all to gain. The only thing he would have is a highlight reel KO but if he loses think of whats gonna happen.

I don't care if he picked him or not. However, I have a feeling he didn't. For years Liddell has just fought who they put in front of him.

Liddell said first hand that he did not pick his opponent. But previously MMA weekly stated that he did. Just wondering what source did MMAweekly get their information?

i'd be very surprised if Chuck actually picked out Jardine. Does'nt seem like something he'd do, as he has said in the past that he'll fight whoever the UFC puts in front of him. more likely Dana saw it as the best option and pushed it on Chuck for marketing reasons. after all, out of the four supposed choices Chuck had, Jardine is the well known by casual MMA fans who may not yet be aware of Shogun, Lyoto or Nakamura. Dana is probably looking to build up Shogun in the UFC and give Chuck a chance to win back the belt and arrange a Super Fight between Shogun and Liddell that has a belt on the line.

I would think if Chuck was going to pick his opponent it would be Rampage. I mean Dana gave AA an immediate re-match so you would think he would do the same for his boy Chuck. I know the Hendo fight was already set up, but I'm sure with enough pull he could have got it done. Either way I guess I can deal with this fight because you would think Chuck's next few fights are going to be against the new top talent guys. Wandy/Hendo/Shogun, at least that's what I hope

I think the alleged thing was that Chuck had to pick between 4 opponents. Those opponents being Shogun, Lyoto, Jadine, and someone else all for his comeback fight.
