Fresh off the biggest win of his career, Gabriel Gonzaga lacks no confidence as he inches closer towards a shot at Randy Couture's UFC heavyweight title.

Though an admitted fan of Couture's work, don't expect to see a star-struck Brazilian on Aug. 25 at UFC 74.

"I grew up [watching Couture], but to be a champion, you have to beat the champion," Gonzaga told Sherdog.com's Greg Savage in a recent interview. "I trained hard to get this chance, now's the time to get there."

Despite knocking out heavy favorite Mirko Filipovic with a devastating head kick in April, the Brazilian doesn't plan to stray far from his BJJ roots when he locks horns with the "Natural."

"If Randy Couture takes ‘Napao' down, he's going to make a favor for us," declared Gonzaga's trainer Marco Alvan. "Gabriel wants to fight on the ground with him."

They claim that if Randy takes it to the ground, he's gonna serve them a favor.. But I've no doubt that Randy is full of surprises as usual.. He's gonna do something unexpected and ultimately wins this one!!

I don't see Randy getting submitted in this one, however, if GG can get in position to use that body weight on Randy it might get him in position to pummel him out. Being on his back in guard won't help GG win the fight imo unless he can somehow roll out of into a different position where he can use his weight and strength.
On the flip side, I am not unconvinced that Randy can't stand with GG and exchange.

Liddell at 205 dominated Coture in the standup game. Overwhelmed him. Gonzaga, though he doesn't have the rep of Chuck with hands is bigger, faster and younger. Randy is in for a tough fight.

He seems modest but, even if i wasnt such a big Randy fan id still have to go with him getting the win.Its too soon for gonzaga, I mean he only has what an 8-1 record? I think there are a lot of other more experienced fighters who deserve a shot. Dont you agree?

Couture wins via headkick. Mark my words. OR, it goes to a decision. Way too close of a fight to call for me.

randy by headkick?! wishful thinking. i think that the only advantages randy has are experience and slightly better boxing(but not as heavy hands). that being said i think gonzaga takes it as he has an advatage wherever the fight goes. however with randy you just never know

The first fight Randy dominated the standup against Chuck.
I think this is going to be a great fight to me they both seem very evenly matched.
