Default LET'S VOTE! FIGHT FORUM'S Official UFC Rankings Thread - September

Your Vote Counts! It’s time for Fight Forum members to gather and rank the TOP 10 UFC fighters for each weight class.

Here are the rules for those of you who are unfamiliar:

1. Around the last week of every month, I’ll post a new thread for all Fight Forum members (mods are welcome as well) to rank their Top 10 UFC Fighters for each division.

2. Member rankings will end on Friday, August 31st at 8:00 PM PST. I’ll then calculate all of the votes from each participating member to determine that month’s “Fight Forum Member’s Official UFC Rankings” and post a new thread with the official results of the Top 10 fighters in each weight class.

3. If you’re wondering how the calculations will be made, I’ll assign points for the ranking you give them. I.E. 10 points for 1st, 9 pts for 2nd, on down to 1 pt for 10th. The fighter with the most collective points in a particular weight class will be ranked 1st overall and so on.

4. Since you’re posting your Top 10 list for all to see, please maintain your integrity and vote with as little bias as possible. For example, if you’re a huge Gabe Ruediger fan and place him as the #1 LW fighter in the UFC then everyone will know you’re a tool.

5. The UFC rankings are intended to be for the upcoming month, not all-time. For rankings to be included in the overall results, all fighters must either have fought in the UFC within the last 12 months, have a current UFC fight scheduled or be signed to a new UFC contract, thereby qualifying their intentions to fight in the UFC in the near future.

6. For rankings to count, you must rank all ten fighters for each weight class. If you only rank six fighters at MW, for example, your rankings will not be included in the final tally.

7. You may edit your rankings after you first make them. If you edit, however, you must PM me to let me know that you’ve done so. I usually tally the rankings on a daily basis, so if you edit them later and don’t notify me, I will not know and your previous rankings will remain.

Here are my rankings for September:
(my prior month’s rankings are in parentheses)

10. Cheik Kongo (10)

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT
1. Quinton Jackson (1)

6. Kurt Pellegrino (6)
7. Clay Guida (-)
8. Din Thomas (8)
9. Thiago Tavares (10)
10. Frank Edgar (-)

FYI… Wanderlei Silva is ranking eligible. Evan Tanner is no longer ranking eligible -- it seems that reports of him returning at UFC 76 was premature. Plus with UFC 77 and 78 already booked, it looks like it may be a while if Tanner returns.

NOTE: Sherk is still technically eligible if you choose to rank him. I left him out of my rankings, but his hearing is still pending for October.

Your turn.

As always, I’ve included a list of UFC fighters for those who don’t want to overlook fighters. I don't think you can drop a MW list like that in the OP without a little explanation?

Also, I don't want to quote everyone, but i'm pretty sure anyone who doesn't rank Kenny, or has Huerta in the top 2, is either dumb or totally falls for the UFC hype machine (respectively)

Also, can anyone care to say why they ranked Diego above Kos? Is it just like honest hatred or do people have reasons. He stuck it to a decision with George, and Matt barely lasted one round in their last fight.

Well, to be fair I've had Huerta ranked pretty highly for the last 2 or 3 polls. I honestly think he's better than Florian, Stevenson, or Thomas. I couldn't justify dropping him after he whooped a BJJ world champ. Stevenson's win was impressive as well, but not impressive enough to move him up on my list.

Ranking Diego above Kos for me was due to Kos getting schooled and Diego not being healthy in their fight. I think if they fought again there would be a different result. I'm ranking fighters based on results and who I think would win in a fight at this time. Kos just got exposed and I think now guys are going to know how to gameplan for him. It's very close and I might change my mind next week.

I don't think there are any issues with Heatwaves MW list. He took Tanner out and moved Kampmann, McDonald, and Martin up. Grove lost so he goes down, Lister hasn't fought since his loss to Marquardt so he stays put. What's the issue?

I think Kenny is on the hype machine as well; yeah he has fought name fighters but he has lost all of those fights. Besides that if he fought Huerta I believe he would lose, regardless of who either 1 of them have fought.

What was it about the list that caught your eye? I didn't think anything was peculiar - Kendall dropped, Leites rose, and Tanner was omitted.

Is it because I failed to rank Cote? Cote is only 2-4 in the UFC and one notable victory over Kendall doesn't put him in the top 10 in my opinion. The guy lost to Chris Leben and Travis Lutter. That may qualify him as a competitive fighter, but not top talent.

I agree with Kurtis on this one. The bottom line is that Diego and Koscheck are 1-1 against each other. I was simply less impressed with Koscheck's lackluster victory. I don't believe I can be considered anti-Koscheck either, since I picked him to upset GSP. I also can't be considered pro-Diego, since I believe that Fitch will beat him this month.

And as I've said before, I think it's a lot easier to justify ranking Diego over Koscheck than those who rank Arlovski over Sylvia even though he lost 2 of 3 to Big Tim.
