Angry Contract negotiations stall Arlovski's next fight

Quote:
Contract negotiations stall Arlovski's next fight

August 27, 2007

As they say, timing is everything. Andrei Arlovski's isn't good.

The big Belarusian is currently on the UFC sidelines because he has only one match left on his contract. As we know (see Brandon Vera), the UFC doesn't make key bouts with a fighter who could be on his way out of the organization. After talking with Joe Silva last weekend, that's actually a possibility.

While the UFC matchmaker stopped short of saying the organization doesn't need the former heavyweight champ, comments such as "where else is he going to go" and the contract "has to make sense for us" send a clear message as to who has the upper hand in the ongoing negotiations. The UFC won't book Arlovski until the contract issue is resolved.

Arlovski (11-5) wants a big payday. However, the harsh reality is he's a mediocre 2-2 in his last four and just hasn't been impressive since 2005. A year ago, the UFC couldn't afford to let Arlovski walk. Today, the heavyweight division has ample fire power, and doesn't need Arlovski to make big fights.

Arlovski could look to EliteXC as an option. He'd be a huge "get" for that organization and instantly be the top dog. In the end, though, I believe "the Pitbull" will re-up with the UFC. But, it looks like he'll have to bend in the negotiations to make it happen.

I'm starting to really hate these UFC people!

They killed Pride FC!
Didn't sign Fedor!
Don't wanna renew Arlovski's contract!

I think I'm gonna change my user title to Aika's!

You know, I almost don't blame them for stalling the contract negotiations.

AA hasn't performed the way since losing to Tim Sylvia, and I don't want to see a shadow of his old self.

AA seems to be more concerned with chillin in the clubs, wearing suits, and living the life rather than dominating guys in the octagon.

He' my favorite fighter, but he's got many things he needs to change.

I hope this stall in contract negotiations brings him back down to earth.

I feel ya. They better keep Arloski if theyu know whats best. I'm still a huge AA fan. Give the guy a break, I believe once he fights a guy whos a little more aggressive you will the old AA. Man I know the HW division is better now, but they still can't overlook AA talent. He kept the division alive during its slow time. WAR AA!

i dont see what his leisure time lifestyle has to do with his performance in the cage

i dont see how fans can be happy about the fact that fighters have to be exciting to get title shots (and dana said that arlovski WAS NOT being put on hold for his lack luster fight)

btw arlovski was dominant against cruz and werdum

I agree with the UFC bigwigs 100%. In Arlovski's recent fights he just hasnt been impressive and has been boring and non-aggressive.

If he thinks he can hold them to a big payday when by Arlovski's next fight the UFC HW line-up could be:

Big Nog
Couture
Fedor
Cro Cop
Gonzaga
Kongo
Sylvia

and pretty much any HW fighter in the world (maybe even Lesnar) then he is in dreamland.

Isn't it interesting that at about the same time we don't see AA winning like he use to, we also start seeing a bunch of pics in the club?

The HW division is deep with a bunch of guys laying it out all on the line. I want to see him fight to win. Not fighting not to lose.

The fight against Cruz was tainted with questionable punches to the back of the head.

Against Werdum, he seemed comfortable putting in enough work in the first round and fighting not to lose in the next two.

I would be very disappointed if the UFC didn't renew his contract. However it's also true what you guys have said about his commitment. He needs to realize certain things and when he do I hope he comes back better than ever. He is one of my favorite fighters and I hope he will do good in the future.

That's exactly how I feel. I remember thinking he was unstoppable after the first Sylvia fight. The only one who had a legit chance of beating Fedor.

Hopefully this will make AA realize that he just can't sit back and hope to win decisions if he wants to be a contender in teh stacked HW division. If he comes back to his old self there's no reason why he can't be the top dog in the ufc once again.

I think personaly the treatment of AA is totaly unfair.
Have to be exiting against someone(werdum) that dont wanna strike with him????
That is just plain bullsh^^. They ask him to throw himself into the fight and risk getting cought to entertain? This is just silly.
Another thingi is that I did not find hes last fight really boring eihter.
He is the kind of nice striker to look at. It can really never get boring for me
He got very nice manners aswell. Give him a break is what I would say.

Every fight live theyre owe life, it take 2 figterst to make a good fight.
Hes last fight was deffenetly not hes foult.
Give him somone like Cro Cop or Big Nog and I am 100% sure it will be a good fight.

Like it or not this is an ENTERTAINMENT business. If you don't entertain you don't get paid...and AA hasn't exactly brought a smile to the every day fan recently. AA just happens to have picked a poor time to not bring the goods.

Lately it just seems like it's been the bigger fights with AA. His 3rd fight with Sylvia was a huge disappointment and his fight with Werdum (although i thought it wasn't that bad) was a disappointment to most as well. Hopefully he will get back to his old self after 2 straight W's.

I know that I am a dot in no where and don't have much say in FF but when someone says F**K Dana White, to me that is bashing. How would you guys liked it if I said F**K Randy Couture. I would be in dog house for sure LOL. (I am a big fan of Randy by the way so don't chase me out with torches just yet!

Anyway, all I'm saying is that even though he is unpopular to some, I tend to like him for what he has done. And saying F**K 'someone' is bashing in my eyes.

I respect everyone's opinion!

Aika obviously hates Dana White.. I'm starting to.. And you like Dana!

Regarding his user title being "bashing" or not.. I can't comment on that since i'm not sure where's the redline.. So I prefer to let Aika replys to you!

Last time I checked, Dana wasn't a fighter. Tito was at least smart enough not to kick his Boss's ass.

The AA/Werdum fight was one of the 2 most boring Fights I have seen lately. The Marquardt/Salaverry Fight was terrible too. AA/Tim 2 was a snoozer as well.

It is all about the $$$$ and I for darn sure wouldn't buy PPV that headlined Arlovski. Some would, I know, but many others wouldn't.

As to having an "active social life" and "clubbing", a lot of fans don't want to be bothered with info like that, or steroid use, or recreational drug use, or anything else that else that "takes the shine" off their favorite fighters. But these things have a very real effect on how guys perform in a fight, and as such - they matter.

I do find it chicken sh*T that Ortiz signed contract to fight with the bossman and after Dana White busted his own ass getting into shape and doing all the work for this "exibition" to take place Tito doesn't show. That is chicken, he could have called it off weeks before saying his reasons instead of being a jerk about it.
