Matt Lindland wants to beat up Anderson Silva!
Matt Lindland wants to beat up Anderson Silva
October 29th, 2007
“If somebody had somebody out there, like say Anderson Silva, that needed to get beat up, I’d be more than happy to step in the ropes and take him on. I think that would be a great match up stylistic wise…. His striking is, I think, the best in MMA. I don’t think anybody else uses their striking skills as good as he does. I think my wrestling is the best in MMA. And I think I’d like to match up with him and see if I can close the distance and put him on the ground and out maneuver him on the ground, or see if he can keep the distance and create that space that he needs to do damage. And he doesn’t need much space. I would love to get back in [the UFC]. If they want to deal like professional businessmen, I would love to work with them. I just want to do it professionally and put everything into a contract because this is a business, and it’s my profession, and it’s how I do business…. I would love to come fight for that organization. They’ve got a lot of good talent. They put on a good show. They’ve got a great product. They understand how to market this sport. They understand how to promote. They’ve got a lot of good things going on for them, but they’re inflexible. It’s either our way or beat it.”
– Former UFC middleweight contender Matt Lindland tells MMAWeekly.com that he would be eager to fight 185-pound champion Anderson Silva; however, he wants to sign a contract that he feels serves his best long-term interests. There’s nothing to indicate at this time that the UFC is even interested in re-signing the Olympic wrestling silver medalist.
OK, Let's see here..
Lindland is obviously building bridges..
The UFC MW division is so in need for some top fighters to challenge Anderson Silva..
Honestly, I don't know much about what went down between him and the management of the UFC or Dana White before!! So I don't know what's the chance of re-signing him!!
So do you guys see him Anderson Silva's next opponent??

Yeah, looks like Matt is definitely trying to repair some of the damage done by prasing the UFC. I have said in another thread that he should be Andersons next opponent. It depends on if a certain stubborn bald man will let him come back.

Both Matt and Dana have said in the past year that they saw Matt returning to the UFC as a distinct possibility, so this is no surprise. Seems like now's the right time, because who else is going to fight Silva?

Lindland would be a huge and much needed addition to the MW division. Hopefully the UFC answers his request and they are able to negotiate a contract which benefits both parties. With the lack of any threat to Silva's title does the UFC have any choice but to sign Lindland?

I was just saying that I don't see anybody in the MW division taking on Anderson Silva...or even coming as close as Travis Lutter did. But I can't doubt Matt Lindland. That would be a great fight, but I can see Silva overwhelming him. It's possible that Lindland's best days are behind him. Silva's on top of his game.
Lindland can out wrestle him, I'm sure, but Silva is dangerous on the ground. And those strikes... I'm leaning toward Silva.

Good opportunity for Matt Lindland to attempt to get back in the UFC. He is a big-name in the 185-lbs division and he knows the UFC needs a big-name opponent for Anderson Silva and currently the MW division in the UFC is lacking that kind of top-tier talent. Will be interesting to see if the UFC agrees to sign him.

Would be a good fight but I think it would be a 2nd round KO to Anderson Silva with Lindland dominating the first round on the floor. The MW needs more top talent though with Franklin basically out the the equation, its the worst division in the UFC at the moment in my opinion. LW has people like Sherk, BJ Penn, Kenflo. WW has like Hughes, GSP, Serra. LHW has Chuck, Tito, Rampage, Henderson + lots more, HW has Tim, AA, Crocop, Vera, etc

I think Matt has the style to beat Silva. Bring him and and lets test Anderson's wrestling.

I would like to see that fight. I don't think Lindland would be scared.
I truly believe Rich was beaten before he ever stepped into the ring that second fight. I don't think he believed it would end any way other than with his own KO. I could be wrong, but that's how it looked to me.

I said that before the first fight but I don't think that was the case with the second.. Rich is my most favorite fighter but Silva is just a better all around fighter than he is...
So, that being said.. Anybody that can give Silva a run for his money is fine by me.. Idealy(not sure if thats a word-lol).. My dream would be to aquire Lindland, Hughes move up, Hendo drop down, Bisping drop down and Machida drop down.. Then wham, you have a interesting division.. Would more less want Bisping in there to be everyones "warm up" guy

The Lindland matchup has several good options for Dana. If Anderson were to knock out Matt Lindland, Dana could always boast that his "Middleweight Champion" knocked out Fedor's last opponent. He'd like that...
Personally, I think Lindland deserves a shot at the title, but not right way, should Dana choose to sign him.
Lindland should fight Dan Henderson, with the winner getting the next shot at Anderson Silva.

Your absolutely right. Henderson shouldn't be able to jump right in to the middleweight division and get another instant title shot, Lindland doesn't either.

He would be a great addition to the UFC. But I can see Lindland negotiating for more than what he is actually worth.

Hendo and Lindland won't fight each other.
Just like Filho and Anderson won't fight each other.
But I would be very happy with either of Hendo/Lindland fighting Silva next.
Frankly, those are pretty much the only possible fights for Silva I'd be interested in.
And Pitbull, I don't think testing Silva's wrestling is what we wanna see.
Silva's wrestling may be underrated but if he tests it against Lindland, we all know what's gonna happen.
How about let's test Lindland's chin instead.
It would be interesting to see if Lindland would be able to control Silva effectively on the ground (which is not easy for most fighters, Silva's scrabmling+upkicks are top notch), that could even lead to a stoppage. And of course, Silva can end the fight at any point.
I would be pumped for this one. With Silva a slight favorite.

Goonie, now you know Silva's wrestling sucks if Lutter took him down.
Isn't that right, Matt Lindland?

You're welcome, Matt Lindland.
And we know about Mattie's chin...He knocks himself out in fights.
Just ask Falaniko. Isn't that right, Matt Lindland?

You're welcome, Matt Lindland.
