Report: Dan Henderson Might Fight at UFC 79 at 185 pounds!!

Report: Dan Henderson Might Fight at UFC 79
Posted by MMA Junkie on October 29, 2007

Dan Henderson, who most recently lost a unanimous decision to UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson in September, may return to the octagon Dec. 29 at UFC 79.
The news come from Bubba The Love Sponge, who recently spoke to Henderson in Las Vegas. The Sirius Satellite Radio host mentioned the encounter during today’s episode of his show, and the news also appeared on the show’s official website, BTLS.com. (MMAjunkie.com is a content-partner site of BTLS.com.)
According to Bubba, Henderson wouldn’t name his possible opponent but did mention that he may be dropping to 185 pounds for the fight. That’s actually news itself. In a post-UFC 77 press conference earlier this month, UFC President Dana White said he wants Henderson to drop to middleweight but that the fighter seemed opposed to the idea.
Henderson has one fight remaining on his current contract, which was acquired when the UFC’s owners purchased PRIDE earlier this year (though not all of the fighters’ contracts were transferable). Although Henderson recently stated he was unhappy with the UFC’s initial offer, he said he was optimistic a deal would be reached.
A new deal would likely need to be in place before the UFC would officially book Henderson for his next fight.

I don’t like the attitude of some of the fans who always like to complain. When they say if you had a quick fight that they wished it was longer and if you have a long fight they say you should have beaten this guy quicker. Some people you just can’t please. If it is so easy, they can put on a glove and do it themselves. I’ll watch them fight.

I don't think it will be Lindland as they are both members of Team Quest.
I really hope Dan drops back to 185, he has so much potential in that division and may be the only one with a realistic chance to dethrone Silva.

Hmmm! I wonder if he's renegotiating his contract???
Henderson: "Okay Dana, I'll drop down and save the MW division, but you need to give me $,$$$,$$$."
Or, maybe he's a true competitor like Randy, and is intrigued by the challenge, especially with Anderson Silva's current "head and shoulders" above all of the current competition in the division.
Hmmm...

At least it will give them someone to throw at Silva. They are kinda running out of viable contenders.

I'm gonna play the pessimist on this one. NOT GONNA HAPPEN. Why? Because there's no way that the UFC and Hendo come to terms on a new contract between now and UFC 79. By all accounts, they haven't even started negotiating yet. And how long have the negotiations taken for Arlovski and Jacob Ortiz? I think it's a lot more likely that Hendo doesn't fight for another 4-5 months than have him sign a new deal in one month's time.

Yeesh you still drinkin' the Haterade huh?
You feel that the fighters are being paid enough right now? I doubt Hendo is asking for 20 million a fight, anything better than the 16g's he probably makes now is fair in my opinion.
Everyone cares about this, the MW division is dying right now. I think that you must care also, you read the article and posted didn't ya?

Hendos contract was one of the few carryovers so that is not the UFC's fault and yes the UFC pays the GOOD fighters fairly and the poor fighters get compensated in accordance with their skill level

Fair enough, I wouldn't say that there are any "poor" fighters in the UFC, it is the end game as far as MMA organizations go.
School girl? Wtf does that mean?

I hope it is an immediate title shot against Anderson.....maybe they should put that fight on the super bowl weekend card to make up for the loss of Randy's fight.

There would be no reason for him to drop down and fight at 185 unless it's for the title. Bill it as another unification bout and get it on. Who else is he going to fight, Patrick Cote?
