Babalu vs Chael Sonnen UFC 55 - 'It's personal'
Renato 'Babalu' Sobral fights Chael Sonnen at UFC 55 and here is a link to an interview with Babalu about how he is taking this fight personally:
http://news.adcombat.com/article.html?id=9925
Man, I wouldn't want to be in Sonnen's shoes on Oct 7th. I'm predicting an early KO for Babalu on this one.

Thanks Weasel. You rule man. It's been a while since I'd visited the Abu Dhabi site. I'm glad you reminded me about it.
Babalu is the man. He will win the LHW belt then finally get the respect he deserves.

1000 points on Babalu to win tonight It's not great odds, but if he doesn't win this, I'll eat my hat!

I love Babalu.
If Chuck defends against Randy again, I really want to see Babalu Vs. Liddell again.

Babalu did good tonight. I liked watching him win. He did the Wanderlei Silva wrist wrangling thing before the fight... was pretty cool to see him do that.

Babalu is a good fighter, but he will have to get Chuck on the ground to beat him. An thats not going to happen, a rematch will be in the future, but Chuck will put him to bed again. No Doubt about it!!

When this happens I will be willing to wager all the points I have that you are no doubt about it wrong. Babalu doesn't have to get him on the ground to win, he just has to get in the cage with him again. Babalu is 29 bajillion times better than he was back then and he made one mistake and paid dearly for it. Chuck is still a counter striker, and...wait that's it just a counter striker.

Just a counter-puncher? We are talking about Chuck Liddell? Right? To think that he is merely one-dimensional will get a fighter beat or KO'ed real quick. Liddell has skills that he rarely gets to use, but do not think that he does not know ground skills, submission skills, or a lot of other stuff. His sprawl game is the best in MMA, IMO.
Jeremy Horn was foolish to try to stand toe-to-toe with Liddell, when he ought to have went with a ground game only. Makes me wonder why he did that? The title was on the line. Nobody plays patty cakes when the title was on the line. Why NOT go after Liddell on the ground, if Liddell has no ground game? Why play into Liddell's power?

Yeah I may have been a bit harsh about Chuck. But on the ground he can't hang with Babalu. I don't think he is one dimensional but when comparing him to Babalu that is the only thing he has the edge on.
I agree that Horn was foolish to play the stand up game with Chuck. Not that Jeremy doesn't have the skills, Chuck just outmatches him. I thought Jeremy was just messing with his head making him think he was going to box him then come in and try and surprise him. I still respect Jeremy for going toe to toe with him and not getting knocked out. The shots he was taking should have turned anyone's lights out.

chuck is not just a counter striker.... he has just chosen that method to beat a lot of his recent opponents. which has obviously been a great strategy on his part. he also has raised his cardio where he can just wait 5 rounds for good openings and attack.. im sure if he wanted he could press the action, there just hasnt been a reason to do that against horn, randy or vernon white... i think against tito he pressed the action alot

I know. My previous post was intended to be me admitting that my statement was incorrect. I still say Babalu will beat him. That is if he still has the belt by the time Babalu gets his shot.

the horn chuck fight was different too actually. horn did stand up with him but really tried to goto the ground. chuck was way too smart for that.... however since babalu is so much better at stand up i could see the fight having a better chance to goto the ground. that sounds strange, but with 2 good stand up fighters they are bound to collide and clinch a few times, which would give babalu at least a chance to get it down to the ground and go for a sub... however i havnet seen chuck down there in awhile, he could be alot better

I'm pretty sure I am going to name my next son Renato. I thought about it before but it doesn't really flow with the last name but I don't really care anymore.

Babaloo def has the ability to beat chuck, he will have to get in there and dictate the fight, chuck leasrns from all his fights to, he is a champion. i would rather see him fight Renato before randy again but they will def fight again.

Why the heck is Chuck waiting until February to fight? That will be 6 months between fights for him. Is that how it usually is?
I think Babalu would take him on in December or whenever the next PPV is around that time. I don't know the schedule, so I guess February might be the next one after November. That just seems way too long for the most popular UFC fighter going right now.

I agree man. It is kind of weird. I honestly think, not only because I'm a Sobral fan but in reality that Babalu deserves a shot more than Randy does. Yes I agree I guess they need to have the rubber match but Randy doesn't truly deserve the title shot by beating Van Arsdale. Babalu has done so much since his loss to Chuck and is still overlooked by UFC. I hope they really let him have another shot soon.

Liddell has had like seven fights in two years. Belielve it or not, Liddell is 8-2-0 in his last ten fights going back to January 2001. He lost to Quinton Jackson and Randy Couture. And, Liddell is on a four fight winning streak. Liddell has faced at least eight top fighters in his last ten fights. He avenged his loss to Couture. Also, he avenged his much earlier loss to Jeremy Horn. It would be nice to see him defeat Rampage Jackson and avenge that last defeat...
I really do not see why he has to fight Couture again. I know it would settle that best two-out-of-three thing, but why does Liddell HAVE to do that? It is not in the best interest of the title, IMO. The UFC needs to find high level talent for Liddell to fight. Fighters from all over, not just the same guys over and over again. The Horn fight was good, but I do not care to see Liddell vs. Horn 3. Sorry, but that and Liddell vs. Couture 3 just do not interest me...
Now, a Babalu vs. Iceman 2 match has a lot of interest for me... I like Babalu and Liddell, and so I think that it would make a good fight. However, since it seems for sure that Liddell will fight Couture in February 2006, then they should get Babalu to fight again on the same card. Put him against someone that is really good. If he wins, then he might well get a shot. Maybe they toss Forrest Griffin in there with Babalu, LOL.
