I would like to see GSP beat Hughs again. But I would like to see this fight go into the 3rd round and be a very aggressive fight.

Looks good to me. I hope Hughes wins just so we can see Hughes vs Serra.

Don't underestimate GSP's ground game. Don't forget that in his last fight GSP actually outwrestled Josh Koscheck who is arguably an even better wrestler then Matt Hughes. GSP is the more well-rounded fighter, he is a much better striker then Hughes, and as he proved in the Koscheck fight, he is also powerful on the ground. Sure it's MMA and anything can happen, but I think it's unlikely that Hughes will come out of this fight the winner. GSP has his number.

I guess GSP can get ready in 5 weeks, despite what many said here regarding the timeline.
I can see GSP pounding Matt Hughes into retirement. That would the best belated Xmas wish I could hope for...
Prepare to get schooled Matt. Again...

as much as i love GSP, he COULD lose the fight.... hughes is so good and such a veteran.... it really leaves the loser of this in a tough spot, especially hughes....
bottom line is hughes needs to pull something out of the blue to win this fight... a sub, or get GSP in a good GnP spot... hughes is the best in the world at pulling those spots out of the blue though....
although on just a skill level basis GSP should win this fight

Because Matt hasn't gotten any taller and his boxing skills really haven't improved. The first fight was with a younger more inexperienced GSP. The more experienced GSP isn't going to allow Hughes to take him down. Matt just doesn't have the tools get in close enough to get a takedown. GSP will strike and then avoid the takedown. And if GSP takes Hughes down, the height difference is too great. Hughes' short legs will not work well in guard agains GSP. It's a bad match-up for Hughes. You can throw the first fight out the window, as GSP is much more experienced now. I think even Josh Kos could take it to Hughes at this point and probably several others. In the past, it was all Hughes. Those times have come and gone as fighters have become more well-rounded.

I think it really comes down to Hughes's motivation. He simply is not interested in fighting anymore. And that is a bad way to face someone like Georges.

Umm.. What brought you to that conclusion? Just because he lost doesn't mean he isn't motivated. I guarantee if somehow he were to beat GSP all that talk of retirement would be out the window. He would be talking about moving up to fight Silva and the same cockiness would return that we have always seen from Hughes. I just think he was humbled a bit by his last fight with GSP. I am quite sure he is going to be pumped up for this fight.

In his last fight with GSP he did not want to fight, smiling and never really getting it going. After that loss he came close to retirement. Then he fought Lytle and did the bare minimum to pull it off. In the recent TUF season he said that he would retire after a couple more fights. If that is not wanting out, you tell me what it is.
I can assure you that his only motivation to face GSP is money. His whole world must have gone to pieces when he was told that Serra was injured and the replacement was Georges. Then he probably thought he could cash in.

I don't think smiling had anything to do with it.. He didn't walk into the match saying, "Hi GSP, my buddy, please beat the crap out of me." It wasn't for lack of effort that he lost. He just couldn't take GSP down.

He did the same GNP stuff he has always done. It may have been boring but what did you expect him to do? Outbox Lytle?

Yeah yeah I have heard this retirement ploy before. Remember, Couture and CC have used it. What that translates to is I am going to bust my arse to pull off another win. But if I should lose, it will be too shameful so I can take the retirement door because I have been setting it up for quite awhile now in interviews. It's a way out by saying he is getting too old to fight at the level he is used to... instead of tarnishing the great fights in the past.

That's your opinion. Hughes, to me, looked lost despite any efforts to take the fight to the ground. Even Koscheck did more against St. Pierre.
Obviously you are a Hughes die-hard and we will stay in disagreement. The only thing that could change my mind is his upcoming fight with Georges.

Wow I really didn't expect this match. Hopefully GSP comes in as close to 100% as possible. If he is in shape physically and mentally Hughes has a long night ahead of him.
WAR GSP!

LOL If anything, I would have thought you would say I was a GSP die-hard since I have posted twice in this thread that Hughes will lose. In actuality I wanted GSP to win the last fight. Since Hughes has now been brought down to earth to an extent, I am going to root for Hughes in this upcoming fight. Besides, I like rooting for the underdog. Although he is easy to dislike, Hughes is a character that is sorely needed in the UFC,

He attempted maybe 1 TD, in thier 2nd fight, he even said he was going to showcase his standup. i think you should go and rewatch the fight, becasue Hughes was trying to stand and trade with GSP.
Koscheck's wrestling is very different from Hughes'. In a collegiate Wrestling match, I would give Kos the advantage, but in MMA wrestling, it's not even close. It's not fair to compare to koscheck, a guy who has been fighting for 2 years to Hughes, a veteran of over 40 fights.
I can't wait to hear all the excuses when Hughes beats him, all the GSP fans are already laying the groundwork to use the fact he took the fight on short notice.
Revenge will be sweet!!!
