Hughes vs St Pierre III at UFC 79
Hughes says he wants it for a interim WW title. Makes sense to me, Hughes has a title shot and GSP was next in line and the WW title is overdue to be defended (no fault of Serra's)

Wow, I wonder if the short notice will affect GSP's conditioning. Nevertheless, GSP by TKO in round 2.
Edit: Apparently GSP was helping Rashad prepare for his fight so he's in decent shape already.

who cares .....seen this fight before....i want new fights...with fighters making more money you are going to see them fight far less often....
with increased money comes increased risk two losses in row can virtually end a career....if you are up and coming....
using a temp title is a joke.......its just the ufc's way of making a hughes vs gsp fight more juicy....

So after bashing the keyboard with excitement for 3 minutes and realizing that won't form words i've decided to return to my normal methods. But seriously, that was probably the only match they could have put together that would have filled the gap of not having Serra. I had not even though of an interim title fight. It seemed pointless, but it does put a title fight on the card which is a big deal. Matt Hughes, GSP, UFC, you all rock! In honor of this i am going to do so many drugs that tomorrow i won't remember this fight is even happening!

Ya this is good news, not sure who I want to win though. I love Georges but really wanted to see Hughes destroy Serra and take the title off him. Doesn't really matter though I guess - think Georges is just too good and has Matt's number. His take-down defense and display of wrestling ability against Koshcheck was so good it scares me.

Thank god GSP stepped up, I was so devastated that Serra wasn't fighting =(. This is a great replacement and will def fill the gap.
I still wanna see Hughes vs Serra though =(..... but I don't see Hughes makin it through GSP...so it could be a while if at all.

Yes, I just don't see how Hughes can pull this one off. In order to win this fight he HAS to be able to take GSP down. I just don't see this happening. He is too short and his arms are too stubby and compact to even be able to exchange enough on the feet to be able to take GSP to the ground. Meanwhile, GSP knows he has nothing to fear from Matt's stand-up so he can basically dance around and pick him apart at will. This is a terrible match-up for Hughes all around. If GSP takes Hughes down, it's going to be really bad. It sucks to be undersized in guard with a taller guy on top raining down punches and elbows. Nope, this is going to be murder for Hughes. |

Glad too hear this! In my opinion although it wont be as exciting as Serra vs Hughes its still a good setup. I see GSP winning be TKO or KO in round 2. He may then go up and fight Serra and I see GSP beating Serra. After a few fights Serra and Hughes will fight eachother or right after they are both beat by GSP! Maybe its just wishful thinking on my part but overall its a good matchup too get some good fights going down! (Sounds stupid im just excited!)
