Default Gouveia vs Lambert At UFC 80

Quote:
UFC.com is reporting that Wilson Gouveia (9-4) will fight Jason Lambert (23-6) at UFC 80: “Rapid Fire,” setting up a light heavyweight showdown that was supposed to happen at UFC 76: “Knockout” back in September.

The original match up was postponed because Gouveia suffered a severe nose break training for the bout. Now he appears to be fit and his opponent has remained unchanged.

Since a unanimous decision loss to Keith Jardine in his Octagon debut at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 3 Finale, Gouveia is on a three-fight win streak inside the Octagon.

The American Top Team-trained Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist will make to look to make it four in a row against Lambert after finishing Wes Combs, Seth Petruzelli and Carmelo Marrero all by way of submission.

“The Punisher,” however, has not been submitted since 2001. And he demonstrated solid submission defense during his last bout with Babalu — one of the best grapplers in the sport — to survive the first round en route to a knockout finish at UFC 68: “The Uprising” in March.

This booking completes the nine-fight card. It also means that heavyweight Mirko Cro Cop will more than likely not compete at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, England, on January 19. The Croatian speculated (incorrectly) that he could return on for this event.

I really like this matchup. Lambert proved himself against Babalu, but I just think those leg kicks of Gouveia are just way to lethal.

I like both guys, but Gouveia is a bad dude.

I think Gouveia takes this one.

Gouveia should be fighting top contenders. Aside from his bad performance against Jardine (a fight he would now clearly win IMO), the guy has been rock solid. Gouveia against Thiago Silva I would like to see.

Im glad we're getting to see this fight, even better that I'll be at the event!

Ive not seen enough of Gouveia to make a prediction but Ive heard a lot of good things about him and Lambert always comes to fight so this should be a good one!

Gouveia definitely has all the tools, but his cardio has been questionable in the past. Glad to see this one happening though, should be fun.

Should be a close fight. I'm picking Lambert to win but it could go either way.

I'm glad this fight is finally happening, as I was lookin forward to it before. I like Lambert, and hope he can win this fight, but I haven't seen enough of Gouveia yet (I can't remember his fights for some reason....). Hopefully Lambert will get the win, and keep moving up in the division.

I can't wait for this.

I would pick Lambert to win this one but I don't think it'll be a dominating performance if he does - definitely an interesting match-up at LHW.
