Default James Irvin On UFC 79 Card!

Luiz Artur Banha Debuts at UFC 79 | UFC Daily

Quote:
Another name has been added to the already stacked UFC light heavyweight division as Brazilian Luiz Artur Banha will make his UFC debut on December 29th against James Irvin. Banha’s management team B-TOUGH confirmed with Tatame today that Banha will make his first appearance in the octagon at UFC 79. Banha presently trains with the Gibi Thai Team and holds a fight record of 7-0-0 with one no contest. In his career, Banha has had six victories by knockout and one win by submission.

Meanwhile, James Irvin (12-4-0) is coming off a TKO loss to the very dangerous Thiago Silva back at UFC 71. Irvin suffered an injury in the first round when his knee popped out of its socket forcing the bout to come to a halt. UFC 79: Nemesis takes place on December 29th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
For the people that know me pretty good on this site know that I am a pretty big fan of Irvins. I think he will be a challenge to any striker in the LHW division. I predict round 1 KO for Irvin.

EDIT: I don't know if this is true, because I can't find his opponent on sherdog, and MMAWEEKLY's rumor section doesn't have it so I don't know. Just what I found.

I wondered what had been happening with Irvin. Thanks for the post TICL. His flying knee against Terry Martin was sooooooo good! Add to that the fact that I don't care for Martin and it was doubled or tripled in OOOOMMMMPPPH!

Ya, they stood for like 20 seconds, then Silva went for a takedown and Irvin landed awkwardly. It sucked I was looking forward to seeing that fight.

Thanks Irish, I remember being on ufc.com looking at post fight pics for that fight and the look on Ervins face was like he just got his nuts ripped out. I thought Silva went out there and just destroyed him or something lol.

I'll probably get ripped on for saying this, but I think he would have beat Silva if it weren't for his injury.

7-0-0 withe one no contest? err doesn't that make you 7-0-1? Anyways I have never heard of the other guy but after looking at his record I think Irvin takes this one.

No. A NC is not the same as a draw.

Elbow?

Anyway, if this Banha guy is worthy of fighting in the UFC, he should win this with flying colors. Irvin is just not UFC-material imo.

^Is there an echo in here?
Here's a link to Irvins face when he landed. The pic before, shows that he is still in pain after the fight. UFC® : Ultimate Fighting Championship® Ouch! You also see Rogan in the background, like WTF.

Looks like more of a short hook to me.

I like Irvin, he's always willing to brawl it out and he has a decent chin, Ramirez hit him with some good shots earlier in that fight.

It's hard to tell whether or not it's an elbow. Plus even though I wasn't meaning this. He thought he was KO'd, but not the ref, so he went over and elbowed him

He might of finish the fight with an elbow, but he didn't KO with it, like you originally stated.
