Rumor: Sylvia vs. Nog for the HW strap
UFC 81 Feb 2nd
I am excited about this one. I don't know who to take.
I will take Sylvia on his feet, and Nog on the ground obviously.
If Tim brings his usual TD defense I think he has a shot. I think everyone will give Tim a ton of s h i t for not finishing and blah blah blah. In reality if Nog can not get Tim to the ground he will have lots of trouble finishing as well.
That said, I am taking Nog via Split Decision Write that down

So it is official that Randy turned down the fight? What's the source?

The forum (in portugese) quoted a private moderater "close" to Nog.
I am not 100% but it seems feasable. I think the only reason Tim would not get a shot is if Randy was still fighting for Zuffa.
So who knows how reliable the source, but a compelling match up if it is true.

Does this mean I can "source" everyone who claims to be "close" to other UFC fighters from the Sherdog forums?

Don't mean to knock you DoQ1, but this statement is what everyone already knows, "If Randy doesn't make right with the UFC, Minotauro and Sylvia will fight for the vacant title." If Randy does make right, then this is moot.

I can not refute that.
If Randy had reconciled with the UFC I think we would know by now. I simply found an intriguing quote. It seems more realistic than the majority of the other options, and we will find out soon enough.

Well I guess I am wrong here I just found this at MMANEWS.com
There are some rumors floating around that Tim Sylvia vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira is finally officially set for UFC 81 in February for the interim Heavyweight title.
Not yet.
There is a possibility that the two top-ranked Heavyweights will battle in their next trip to the octagon, but nothing has been finalized yet and there is still nothing definite as to what will go on with the UFC Heavyweight championship.
Obviously Sylvia has been looking for a fight against Cheick Kongo, for whatever reason, but his next fight is heavily rumored to be against Nogueira.
Nogueira seems to think the same thing. MMANews.com interviewed Nogueira backstage after UFC 77 last month, and Nogueira seemed to be eyeballing Sylvia's performance as he expects to battle the former two-time champion in his next octagon-appearance. Check that video out by clicking here.
By all accounts Nogueira-Sylvia seems to be the next big Heavyweight fight, but nothing has been signed or finalized as of this writing. We'll let you know as soon as it is.

"Timmay"?
i wish you would at least wait until the actual thread content to be disrespectful since it is just soo difficult to resist
but im wondering the same things about Randy, oh well, good riddance he made a big mistake taking the route he did in airing a grievance, im glad the UFC is going to go ahead and get the HW show on the road (assuming this news is true)

I was hoping ye' ol' Timmy would get his wish to fight CHETCH Kongo.
That being said, I think Tim has a chance of pulling out the upset over Nog.

You know I am happy to see Tim v. Nog, but Kongo/Sylvia sounds damn good to me.
The difference in styles should be interesting between Nog and Tim. Too bad we may not see Randy/Nog

What may happen with this fight is another bloody interim title. This would the right match however I believe. Then let have AA fight Kongo or something for #1 contender.

On paper Nog should beat Tim, but my instincts are pointing me towards Tim winning by decision.
