Evan Tanner To Fight At UFC 82
UFC 82: Evan Tanner to fight in Columbus, Ohio (Exclusive) at UFC blog for UFC news, results, videos, rumors, fights, pics and tickets — MMAmania.com
Quote:
MMAmania.com (UFC blog for UFC news, results, videos, rumors, fights, pics and tickets — MMAmania.com) recently learned that former middleweight champion Evan Tanner (32-6) will return to the Octagon at UFC 82 in Columbus, Ohio, at the Nationwide Arena on March 2.
No opponent has been named.
Tanner — who will be 37 years old on fight night — has not competed since a submission win (triangle choke) over Justin Levens at UFC 59: “Reality Check” in April 2006. He recently signed a four-fight contract extension to return to action and provide some much-needed depth and experience to a relatively talent-shallow 185-pound division.
It’s been a long strange trip for Tanner outside the cage during his almost two-year self-imposed fight hiatus. There’s no telling if he can recapture his old form and become a middleweight contender.
Either way it’s going to be fun to watch — Tanner fights rarely go the distance. In fact, he has only been in involved in three decisions in nearly 40 professional mixed martial arts bouts.
It’s important to note that Tanner will fight on the same card as current UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva. Tanner has mentioned numerous times that he feels he matches up well with “The Spider” and is eager to give it a shot.
Two things would more than likely have to happen for that to occur: Silva needs to defeat — or lose to — Dan Henderson (no sure thing) and Tanner would have to rattle off at least two wins (no sure thing, either.)
Again, it should be fun to watch regardless of the results.

I hope they don't give him an easy opponent. I would like Bisping vs Tanner

War Tanner. I hope to see him back in good shape, although I don't see him beating Silva.

Tanner looked very sharp and very dominant in his last fight in the UFC. I think he has the mentality and the smarts to know that he cant just go in there unprepared. Im willing to bet he comes in and puts on a great performance.

I've been looking forward to Tanner's return for ages. I hope he'll continue fighting as well as he used to. He did look good in his last performance, hopefully he can be that good, and even better. I'd like to see him face someone he has a chance of beating, but not someone that'll overwhelm him.
I think MacDonald would be a good warmup fight for him.

i cant see tanner having much of an impact in the division. looking at the beatings franklin gave him and silva gave franklin, there would have to be some serious matchup differences for tanner to have a chance against silva

Long time reader, first time poster
It's nice to finally be talking with you all.
I wouldn't have posted, but I couldn't make a mistake like this slip by.
"Two things would more than likely have to happen for that to occur: Silva needs to defeat — or lose to — Dan Henderson (no sure thing) and Tanner would have to rattle off at least two wins (no sure thing, either.)"
Isn't the Silva win/loss a sure thing? What else could happen?
Back to the subject at hand, ET is definitely my favorite fighter, so it is awesome to see him coming back!

Welcome to FF Beazt!!
And they will probably give Tanner an easier opponent for his first fight back. I would hate to see him lose his first match back after all the trouble he had getting there in the first place.
