BELOW IS THE COMPLETE RELEASE:

(Media-Newswire.com) - Las Vegas, NV ( USA ) • On the night before the biggest football game of the year, Ultimate Fighting Championship® ( UFC® ) organization takes center stage with an immense night of hard-hitting heavyweight fight action. At UFC 81, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir will put former WWE Champion and world-renowned superstar Brock Lesnar to the ultimate test, as Lesnar makes his move from the squared circle into the Octagon™ to prove that he is for real. This will be a feature fight of the night at UFC 81: BREAKING POINT taking place live from Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Feb. 2, 2008, on the eve of Super Bowl XLII.

“It’s an interesting matchup,” said UFC President Dana White. “Lesnar is a great wrestler, a good athlete, and this is definitely gonna be a big test for him. Frank Mir is a former world champion who is coming off a big win over Antoni Hardonk, and he’s looking to get his career back on track while Lesnar’s looking to walk into the UFC and prove what type of fighter he’s gonna be by trying to knock him off.”

Tickets for UFC 81: BREAKING POINT go on sale Sunday, Dec. 9 at 10am PST and are priced at $800, $500, $300, $200, $100 and $50. Tickets will be sold at any Mandalay Bay box office and all Las Vegas Ticketmaster locations ( select Smith’s Food and Drug Centers, Macy’s West at the Fashion Show Mall and Ritmo Latino ). To charge by phone with a major credit card, call the Mandalay Bay box office at ( 702 ) 632-7580 or Ticketmaster at ( 702 ) 474-4000. Tickets also are available for purchase at UFC® : Ultimate Fighting Championship®, Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino - Las Vegas Resorts, Hotels & Casinos or Official Ticketmaster site. Tickets for Concerts, Sports, Arts, Theater, Family, Events, more.

UFC® Fight Club™ members will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to this event Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 10am PT via the website UFC® : Ultimate Fighting Championship®. A special Internet ticket pre-sale will be available to UFC newsletter subscribers Friday, Dec. 7 starting at 10am PT. To access this presale, users must register for the UFC newsletter through UFC® : Ultimate Fighting Championship®.

There also will be a special auction for Octagon-side floor seats available only through Official Ticketmaster site. Tickets for Concerts, Sports, Arts, Theater, Family, Events, more starting Sunday, Dec. 9 at 10am PT.

UFC 81: BREAKING POINT is available live on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. EST/7 p.m. PST on iN DEMAND, DIRECTV, DISH Network, TVN, Bell ExpressVu, Shaw Communications and Viewer’s Choice Canada for a suggested retail price of $44.95 for standard definition or high-definition broadcasts ( where available ).

The 6-3 ½, 265 Lesnar ( 1-0 ) comes to the UFC with stellar college wrestling credentials that saw him earn All American status four times, win Big Ten Championships twice, and also win the 2000 NCAA National Championship. After leaving the University of Minnesota, the South Dakota-born Lesnar gained fame as a professional wrestler and also had a stint with the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings. In 2007, he made his mixed martial arts debut and annihilated Min Soo Kim in just 69 seconds on June 2nd.

“This guy’s not trying to duck anybody,” said White of Lesnar. “He knew once he got in the UFC that he was gonna fight tough guys.”

28-year old Las Vegan Frank Mir ( 10-3 ) was destined for stardom from the moment he stepped in the UFC Octagon, and he lived up to all expectations when he submitted Tim Sylvia in 50 seconds in 2004 to win the UFC Heavyweight Championship. Unfortunately, Mir’s career ground to a halt when a serious motorcycle accident later that year forced him to the sidelines for almost two years. His eagnerness to return forced him into some spotty performances when he did return in 2006, but at UFC 74 in August, Mir was back in top notch form as he submitted Antoni Hardonk in just 77 seconds.

The remaining bouts for UFC 81: BREAKING POINT will be announced in the near future. All bouts live and subject to change. For further information on the UFC visit UFC® : Ultimate Fighting Championship® or uk.ufc.com or UFC® : Ultimate Fighting Championship®

This sucks. I order everyone too. I can barley afford it as it is. Sorry to complain but, I hope they stack the card better or give more free UFN.

Strange, they were $39.99 for so long and now they go up? I hope it doesn't end up like boxing where it is 60 bucks for a PPV.

Actually is hasn't even been $39.95 for that long. I don't remember if it was the second or third Liddell-Couture fight where they moved it up from $35.95. This is unsettling but it does lower the cost of the HD broadcast. So basically they're forcing you to get the HD but aren't making you pay as much for it. Unless you can't get HD, in which case you're boned.

I remember in 1994 when it was 19.99 or something like that.

Well, this sucks. I hate paying the 40 bucks. Hopefully this is all they will raise it.

That's kinda bad that the price is raised. It's too expensive already, and that's why I've never ordered one PPV (But I have other ways...).

I would have thought that more success for the UFC would = the same price for PPVs, not more.

Oh well.

i think ufc 54 was 34.95, then it went to 39.95, now 44.95. Expect 50 big ones by the end of 08

That's what I was thinking. There making more money than ever so why do they need to raise the PPV prices also. But I guess as long as people are buying them they will probably continue to increase the price.

Thumbs down

All Dana wants is more money in his pocket. F*** him!

I hope the PPV numbers go down now with this increase.

Well this sucks. Hopefully WEC being on Versus and M1 (on HDNet?) will be big enough competition to lower UFC ppv buys........then again, probably not. I'll still buy either way and Dana knows it.

+1 ^^^What he said.^^^

My time has ended with the PPV purchases. Dana will still be rich and make money from the new price increase from other buyers, but what makes me feel better is that he's not getting rich from my $$$.

The price increase doesn't surprise me. The UFC knows that the fans will pay it. Dana still sucks for taking advantage of the fans like that.

They put the price up becuase..

A) All bars will still continue to buy it.

B) Most people who watch it don't watch it alone, which means people most of the time split the costs of the PPV

C) THEY WILL STILL GET IT, ALWAYS.. just not from me

PS: To the people who bought PPV's before whats the big deal, it's went up a few dollars, WOW ! a few extra dollars a month so what? Instead of eating out one night, stay home and save that money, BAM! you got that extra money for the PPV it's not hard guys.

It all ad's up....$50 for Cable, UFC event now $45. So your paying $100 a month to watch TV. I was already on the fence with $40.00, no way I'm paying any more. There's plenty of sites that upload the fights right after they air.

Yeah...it's really not that bad. It's only a few bucks, just like it's only a few cents when gas goes up. It's really not that bad....NOT!!!

It adds up!!!

In six months you're out $29.76. There are better places where you could have spent that money. Maybe putting more gas in your car or taking your lady for a movie.

The point is that everything is going up. Cost of living, gas, food. Anything you could think of is going up and ofcourse the salaries are not going up. So it may only seem like chump change in the beginning, but it adds up. All people are going to end up doing is putting more money in Dana's pocket. Hopefully with this PPV increase the fighters pay increase too, but I highly doubt it.

So if it's not that bad then why won't you pay it?
