Even though I really dislike Hughes, he is still a great fighter and there are plenty of matchups I would still love to see like Penn/Hughes III, Hughes/Serra, Hughes/Fitch, Hughes/Karo, and Hughes/Diego. If he does retire sometime soon, I hope he comes back Couture style in a year or 2. He isn't too old for that.

I voted yes. I really don't know what else he could do, especially in the WW division that has a lot of talented kids. The MMA game is changing, and I don't think Hughes can.

I feel that both Matt and Rich can beat anyone but the champs in their divisions--I am assuming GSP will be Champ again. If you are as tenacious and as serious a competitor as these 2, do you contine to fight even if you can't beat the champs? I'll say yes. Maybe they get injured or beaten. Pretty bleak, but that's probably an end-goal.

First off, Matt should do whatever he wants to do. Two losses to GSP don't mean his career has to end unless he wants to retire. Couture took to two major Butt Whippings at the hands of Liddell, and he has done ok after a break and changing up his training (seriously training hands for example) and (I think) his supplement regimen.

I do wonder about the talk of Hughes going UP in weight. Strength and size seemed to be major disadvantages against GSP. Maybe Hughes should be looking to go down a class instead.

I had been thinking about this as well. He looked dramatically smaller compared to GSP....

Truthfully though, that division (LW) is way too stacked and fast paced IMO for an older matt hughes. Everyone in this division seems to bang pretty hard, and be able to wrestle, Hughes would defiantely have to rely almost entireley on strength.

You are right, the LW division is stacked, but Hughes is still a good wrestler, GSP just has some of the best take-down defense around. That doesn't mean all the LW's could avoid Matt's takedowns. This may all be a moot point anyway - I am not sure Hughes could or would make LW weigh-in.

I don't think this is really a question that we should be answering, so no... It's really up to Hughes whether he's still into the game or not. If he still thinks he can fight, let him... he's only 34 - yes, he seems more seasoned than the late-30er's who are still near the top of their divisions, but he can still beat 90-95% of his division I bet. I don't see him ever beating GSP anymore, but then again... I believe the answer to "why" lies in the fact that it seems he's been training the same way for the last couple years. If he wants to progress, he needs to switch things up a bit - if he's not comfortable changing his style, then he's not going to be a champion again. Sadly, I don't believe he wants to change... but I think he knows now, after losing to GSP for the second time, that he won't progress any further as a competitor as a result. Me? I think he needs plenty of time to think it over - I'm glad his response to the retirement question was to wait and see what the UFC wants to do with him first.

No, I want to see him try to outwrestle Fitch. Plus I think that everyone wants Hughes vs. Serra because of the soap opera that is TUF.

First of, i think Matt Hughes has nothign to prove anymore.
Even with 2 lost against GSP, the dude is a Legend. The fight GSP-Serra is in 4 month so i say, wait for the result of the fight, if Serra lose, take the fight. Its gonna give him a good time to relaxe by then.

For the people talkign about Hughes going to MW. Its ridiculous to me. The guy is 5'9" and he's known as a WW legend. Don't scrap that reputation right at the end.

I do not like Hughes very much but the guy is one of the all time greats in MMA. I think Dana needs to give him a fight that he can win and then have him retire. Somebody that he can do his old signature body slam and then induct him into the Hall of Fame. He deserves to go out with the sun setting behind him.

Matt should go out with a bang! He should fight an exciting fight against Serra. Then either call it quits or keep fighting. He shouldn't retire.

I voted no. But it's up to him. No matter what, Hughes will always be my all time favorite fighter.

So, Matt Hughes gets schooled, again, by GSP. Now people think he can hang, at 185, with Anderson Silva? Personally, I'd love to see this fight. If you think Silva did damage to Franklin's face, wait until you see what he does to Matt Hughes.

Please Matt, take on Silva. Do it for me. Do it for the fans. Do it for that 'highlight reel" KO

Don't know there exact reach but i'm sure there's a huge difference between Hughes and Silva just comparing the height, Hughes is 5'9 and Silva is 6'2.
