Default Status of Tito Ortiz?

Anyone know the status of Tito Ortiz and the UFC? I know he was "supposed" to have 1 more fight on his contract with the UFC, but I have also heard rumors that Ortiz is done with the UFC.

This is the message that Tito posted on his website after the UFC 52 event.

Posted: Fri Apr 22, 2005 3:32 am* *Post subject: Whats up?

I just want to come on and say Hi. I have been very busy on my future. It looks very bright. But being a UFC fighter will not be my future. I have never been so embaressed in my life. I got put in the bleachers, asked to leave the octagon when Ivan won, I was not aloud back stage to get my bags. But its business to the UFC. I am pushed in to a corner and wont be pushed anymore. I have done good for the UFC in every interview, fights, and just trying to push the UFC to mainstream. Now that I am not their Champ they can careless. I will make it with or without them. I have to look out for my self. I do want to thank them for everything, but its time to go on with my future. What is next for Tito? You all will know soon!!!!
I want to thank my fans for the support. Couldnt have done it without YOU!!!!!!!

Tito Ortiz

It always comes down to one thing - money. Sports are so commercialized nowadays it's no longer fun to watch.

Tito made an appearance on Fox's The Best Damn Sports Show Period. Scroll down, the clip is on the lower left side of the page.

"Former UFC champ Tito Ortiz talks about a future in wrestling and movies. As an added bonus, watch Chris Rose get bashed in the face with a guitar. Classic!"

Sorry folks, I had to take the link down because it was no longer active. Anyway, Tito made no mention of the UFC. He seemed more interested in acting than anything.

I'm glad Tito has left The UFC, all he did was piss me off. Back in the early UFC's it was Tito v The lions den as he showed no respect to anyone he fought. I do admit he was good but after beating Guy Mezger he didnt really have to wear a shirt saying, 'I just ****ed your ass'. I was dissapointed to hear that there was going to be no rematch of Tito v Ken Shamrock as i would of loved to see Ken 100% fit fight Tito again. As shamrock said, tito ortiz is just a punk.

Tito wore the "I just ****ed your ass" shirt after beating Jerry Bohlander. After being Guy Mezger he wore a shirt that said "Gay Mezger is my Bitch."

I'm not a big fan of Tito either, however I enjoy watching him fight in the hopes that I would see him lose. The main event of UFC 47 is still one of the most pleasing fights I have ever seen.

I am not dissapointed that Ken never rematched Tito. Say what you want about Ken not being 100% and say what you want about not liking Tito, but Ken just can't hang with a guy like Tito.

ok then, i got that one mixed up. I'm glad you dont like Tito either and what you are saying about shamrock cant hang with Tito. If Tito fought Shamrock when Ken was in his prime Tito would of lost, but now he is too old and there were many rumors, and Ken said himself that he went into the fight with Tito with some injuries.

Thumbs up Loved the action...didn't care for the mouth

First things first...I am not a fan of trash talking in or out of the ring; which is why I haven't watched wrestling since I was in elementary school. (If I wanted drama I would be watching some tv show.) That being said...

I loved Tito's reign! I really enjoyed watching him fight, and win, and win. I enjoyed watching the Tito v Shamrock fight, because it was the "old vs new". I like both fighters and it was the one time that I was almost completely nuetral in who I was rooting for. lol

Tito's action inside of the octagon was always exciting to watch and he fought like a champion. While his mouth usually did not impress me, I was greatly impressed by his actions after his loss to Randy Couture, he showed great respect when he had been beaten by the better man.

I truly believe that Tito was great for the growth of the UFC and mma in general. He is one of the reasons that I continued to watch UFC. I won't stop watching the UFC now that he is gone, but I will miss watching his fights.

I wish Tito and his family the best of luck in their future.

Great respect? Hardly not for himself... Grown men don't cry over losing.

i also like it when he lost to randy couture, because he cried lol and how he got spanked by couture! It certainly put Tito in his place.

Default The respect...

I believe that his crying had nothing to do with his respect, it was the emotions of a man who was obviously frustrated and dissapointed by such a dominating loss.

IMO Tito showed great respect to Randy when he took his belt and put it around Randy's waist; he was passing the sign of the champion to the one who earned it that night. Randy earned that belt and Tito knew it.

Tito has never had a problem showing respect in defeat. However, it's the mark of a true champion to show respect in victory. That is something that Tito was never man enough to do.

I don't really want to get into an argument about Ken in his prime vs Tito in his prime because it's something that we will never be able to see. But I will say that the sport that Tito became famous in and the sport that Ken became famous in are two very different things. Yes, both were in the UFC, but it was two very different UFC's. In Ken's time the sport was still in it's infancy and the level of competition was very very different. Ken fought in the UFC when it was still a drastic style vs style fight. Boxing vs Jiu-Jitsu, Judo vs Submission wrestling, that sort of thing. Since then the sport has evolved and I'm not sure Ken has evolved with it. Has Ken gotten better? No doubt about it. Unfortunately for him, so has the competition and at a much faster rate. Now almost everyone cross-trains in multiple disciplines, which makes the overall quality of fighters much better. Ken has fought two fighters that are from the "new generation" of fighters, Tito and Rich Franklin. And in both cases, he got dominated.

I have a lot of respect for Ken for what he did to pioneer this sport that we watch today, but Ken can't hang with the top tier fighters of today.

You may choose to disagree, but this is my feeling on the subject.

LastExit34, I completely agree with you, Tito should have shown more respect during his victories.

I also agree with your comments on Ken Shamrock's time in the UFC vs. the current UFC. Ken was a great fighter for his time, but I believe that his time has past.

I really thought Ken would give Jim Carey a fight, but after watching that fight, I think it's probably time to for Ken to call it quits. The fact that he is still fighting is an accomplishment in itself. I guess Ken got a good paycheck for that fight, 300k or so, but I don't see him in any more big fights.

You guys and your "respect" i can care less what these guys say or do before or after the fight. This is what is wrong sports today. Everyone is always interviewing athletes. I say let em fight then on to the next bout. Who cares about what entrance music they have or what they are wearing?

lol i agree, in UFC 1 no one even knew what the guard was before Gracie became so popular. Then it was reffered to 'The Gracie guard' rather than the open guard.
