Newfound respect for Lesnar
I dont know about you guys, but after watching last nights fight.. I was extremly impressed with Lesnar's performance despite the loss. I mean there is no shame in losing to Frank Mir, as gifted as he is in Jiu-Jitsu. Frank is considerd by most to be one of the best submission fighters in the heavyweight division, his jiu-jitsu is world class. I mean even two time champ Tim Slyvia lost to Frank. All I gotta say is everyone else in the heavyweight division better look out. Lesnar is a beast and was absolutly dominating the fight before the submission, I think he would probably win that fight more times than he losses it. Lets face it.. Mir was on the verge of defeat and was getting smashed. This is just my personal opionion, but I think Lesnar would demolish Couture, as much as I hate to say it. I think it would just be a bad style matchup for Couture. Lesnar would simply out power him and ground and pound him out for a decision. And, I believe he would (and will) do that to most, if not all, the heavyweight division here before to long. End the end, the fight ended how I expected it too. However, I did not expect Lesnar to put on as good of a show as he did. Mir barely escaped with victory, and Lesnar showed he has the skills and power to take on (and beat) anybody the ufc has to offer.
What do you guys think?
Also, I still think its pathetic the way the fans at the UFC shows boo fighters. I mean, give me a break.. Tyson Griffn is one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC, and despite his decision victory last night.. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. He still puts on a good show time and time again, even with his decision victories. You could tell he was going out there looking to finish, and even coming up short he was still able to put on an entertaining performance with his win.

I think with more training and experience, he'll be the champ one day. The UFC is smart though, just in the small sports bar where we always watch, there were more WWE fans than UFC fans it seemed. They went crazy when they showed the other wrestlers in attendance. Everyone except about four of us were going for Lesnar. They booed when he lost. They are now UFC fans though, so the UFC won out in my area!

I agree, im not taking anything away from Mir. His composure was unbelievable, and to pull of that submission after getting mauled was at the least, quite impressive. You could argue he deserves a title shot after 1 more win.. However, I think everyone will be keeping an eye out for Brock Lesnar.

Yeah, the booing (of both Griffin and Lesnar) was some stupid ****.
And I agree that Lesnar will be a bad match-up for a lot of guys in the division.
We'll see how he will do.
But he seems committed and humble enough.
I'm not gonna be a true fan of his ever most likely, but no reason to hate him either.

I hate to say it, but after watching that fight a few more times, Lesnar is far from being a serious contender. Frank Mir took his time going for that leg. There was absolutely no effort to hide what he was doing, and he slowly went after that leg. Lesnar said in post fight that they worked on defending the kneebar coming into this fight, but I don't see how he got caught with that.

I was also impressed with Lesnar's performance - especially considering it was only his second fight in MMA and he was going up against a former UFC HW Champion who has tons of experience. Lesnar was dominating the fight until he made that rookie mistake which is understandable since he is still a rookie to MMA. Given some more time to improve things like his submission defense and I think Lesnar will be an unstoppable force in the UFC HW division.

I am probably Mir's biggest fan,but I agree.
That was one of the most telegraphed kneebars I've ever seen.
Brock just panicked.

Anyone going to comment on Lesnar's stand up? Not a lot to see in that match but I thought his knockdown of Mir with a punch was notable to say the least.
Also, is thgis a sign of Mir returning to his pre-accident form finally? It would certainly heat up the HWT's if that were so. Give Big Nog someone to play with since Randy and Fedor won't be in the UFC.

For real. This fight is a win-win for both Lesnar and Mir.
Lesnar now has two fights under his belt, and knows he has to have at least a good JJ defense to be competitive.
Mir basically screamed "I'M BACK BABY!!" using actions rather than words.
Real winner: HW division.

I had a lot of respect for him to begin with. He had it made in the WWE, but he chose to really compete and test himself. His dedication was shown in his all access show.
Taking his skills into account, how many people in the heavyweight division actually possess the kind of jujitsu Mir had? I think he can take a guy like Tim Sylvia imo. I am still incredibly impressed that he was able to take down Mir, that guy is a 1998 State wrestling champion

lets see what happens after the steroid results are in ... but yeah I agree he definitely came out gunz blazing! I would like to see him and Tim bang it out for 3 rounds straight ... I think Tim Sylvia vs Lesnar should be next .. man that would be a great fight .. but they are probably going to give him someone a little easier and less talented so they can hype him up again!

Lesnar was impressive for a rookie, if he would have had a few more fights under his belt i think he would have beaten Mir. Very good of Mir to pull the sub of after such beating. I think Lesnar will be back with an impressive win next time... will be against a can... but anyway
off topic: The booing is disgusting, no respect, no class, man i hate the UFC audience. I think its the worst audience of any sport. When i look at an event with some of my friends who are not as big MMA fans as I am... i feel ashamed... its pathetic.

I know what you mean. It is very anoying. Actually the only thing that can really destroy an event is the UFC audience wich sucks big time.

Yeah, hopefully Lesnar will get some better BJJ training. I'm a Mir fan but to be honest, my friends and I were extremely excited when Lesnar took Mir down so easily.

Lesnar impressed me alot. His punched straight through Mir's hands.
The UFC should NOT give Lesnar a match with Tim Sylvia. This fight would diminish an already weak HW division, with one fighter having back-to-back losses.
Down the road, I would really like to see Lesnar vs Kongo. That would be a war.
For now, give Lesnar a can. Or at least someone with little jiu-jitsu.
