You say you have to beat the best to be the best. Fedor has beaten the UFC's #1 twice and has yet to be defeated himself. Kind of a contradiction on your part.

The best currently holds the UFC title. Right now, Fedor has no title to defend. When he did have the PRIDE title, he went two years where he had only two guys offer a threat to that title (Hunt and Cro-Cop) over the last two years that Fedor was champion. So, right now, Big Nog is The Best at HW. He has the gold belt to prove it.

Just to be fair, Nogueira did indeed fight Zuluzinho in the Pride open weight tournament.

yes and no. Fedor did beat Big Nog twice in Pride but we're looking at fights that took place years ago now. Fedor has gone on to do his own thing while Big Nog has continued to seek out the better competition. I just don't see the number #1 position as something you get to hold onto indefinately once your obtain it. I ask you. What has Fedor done recently to deserve that #1 spot? At the sametime, what has'nt Big Nog done to deserve taking it?

I don't think that just because Nog has a belt makes him the best. It is a subjective standard imo, I value 2 wins over Nog more than the UFC's HW belt. I don't see a 4th fight (Fedor was winning the 2nd until the headbutt) going any differently than the first 3 therefore I regard Fedor as #1. Nog's win over Sylvia solidified that even more for me.

Yeah, I guess I did not really count that since it was a tournament and Nogueira had to fight whomever won their own fights or whomever was entered into the OWGP. It is Open Weight. It was not a title defense. And, I should have been specific about defending titles and such as individual fight competition as opposed to tournament event competition.

yeesh. I don't think I could bring myself to rank Nog above Fedor. Its not like those fights are ancient history.. I'm starting to believe that Fedor wouldve lost his #1 ranking by now, if only there was someone to take it from him. I think a fight b/w Nog and Randy would without a doubt decide a new #1 HW. That is unless Fedor passes on Jeff Monson and decides to fight Josh Barnett.. (on a side note, does Barnett's upcoming fight have any connection whatsoever to M1? Is it even official?)

I think everything regarding Barnett has been a rumour so far. First he was supposed to fight Fedor in M-1, then Aleks, and now I hear he is fighting Yoshida under WVR. I'd like to know what the truth is myself.

Heavyweight has been a historically weak division for the UFC. When Dana said he has all the top talent in the world, he really should have said "I have all the top 205 and 170 talent in the world". That would have been more accurate.

the over nog and fedor in terms of rankings is quite simple. some of you are thinking more towards an all-time basis and then #1 is obviously fedor. but if you live right in the moment, say how the tennis ang golf rankings work, with your past 12 months results, then #1 is obviously big nog.
