I agree Mirko was not interested in fighting in the UFC. I don't know the reasons. It may have been a quick pay check or impending retirement. I guess if he keeps fighting elsewhere, the answer is the first.
You need to go no further than his first fight against Sanchez to see that, despite the victory, he was not a 100% sold in the whole UFC/cage thing. He seemed like a clear mismatch for this organization.

UFC and Dana paid money to get Cro-Cop because they (and the fans) felt the UFC needed more big-name heavyweights. PRIDE was gone, and along came Cro-Cop. The premium pay cheque came via ZUFFA, hardly Mirko's fault. Extorted the UFC and it's American fanbase? We all wanted to see Mirko in the UFC, and it didn't work out well as planned, for some. That's life. As far as you (Ryduce) saying he (Cro-Cop) wasn't interested in being the UFC champ? Unless you are indeed Mirko, you have no base to make such an idiotic statement...

PRIDE held 2 shows after Crocop signed, including 1 in the US. UFC offered more money, thats life.

Man, this blows... Regardless of whether Mirko does good or bad at the end of his fights, it's always fun to watch because you know he can whip one of those high kicks above your head at any second It's gonna suck not seeing him around with (most of) the top guys anymore...

I don't blame him in the least, his last fight in the UFC, he got nut shot three times took many, in my opinion, blows that were very close to being illegal blows. Thought he still stayed all three rounds..

I love crocop!! , and as long as he's still fighting , ill be happy , because I just wanna start seeing guys get KTFO with a Head Kick!! thats all i wanna see! lol.
I also respect his decision to quit the UFC as the rules or the Octagon does not suit him!

The UFC owes him a lot: he made a superstar of Napao Gonzaga and put Kongo back in the contention map.

Here is an update with a statement from Mirko:
Quote:
Mirkos manager Ken Imai:
Ken Imai:
"In japan the press concferences are often helt in front of the fans. For all of them, Mirkos appearance was a very emotional experience."
"Only 3 hours before the conference we recieved a letter from the UFC president Dana White, were it was confirmed that UFC are willing to break the contract with Mirko under one condition, that Mirko returns to the UFC when hes ready"
And Mirko wants to, he confirmed it himself to us, return to the UFC.
Mirko Crocop:
"I will continue to train in the cage that i have in my gym, cause im going back to the UFC. I went because i couldnt wait anymore. I asked to fight as soon as possible, on the 1 of March, but they offered my to fight in may or later. I wantet a rematch with Gonzaga in Zagreb (capital of Croatia), but he lost to Werdum and it therefore never happened. Im in great shape, I have bulked up, I way 105 kg and I want to fight as soon as possible."
And if he wants to fight again as soon as possible (UFC), he will need to finish his new contract without a mistake.
"Mirko is not allowed to loose. After 3 wins all the doors will be open"
Amongst the wishes will certainly be a rematch with Fedor, but he will have to fight like thunder from 15 of March if he wants to deserve that fight.
Mirko knows that a lot of people will say that hes running from the octagon.
"In my last 2 fights i mentally blocked. Before the fights i was empty, depressive and I hated myself"
CC wants to fight in the UK again:
"im sorry for dissapointing my engslish fans who recieved my as a king. And therfore i want to fight in front of them again. I cant go back in time, but my time will come again"
|
Source (croatian newspaper):
Sportal.hr - Pobjede vode prema Fjodoru
I took the translation from another site so I hope it's accurate.
This is good news, I am happy to see that Dana seems to support Mirko's decision. I really hope that he does come back to the UFC to silence all of the haters and fair weather fans.

I don't care what negative things people say about CC. He's still a fierce fighter.
As you can see CC wanted to fight, but the UFC was holding him back so how can you blame him for leaving?

This situation is nothing like with Couture. Cro-Cop was never the UFC champion. And, the UFC would not care at all about Couture retiring, if Couture was NOT the champion. The UFC wants championship exclusivity.
Cro-Cop said himself that he plans to return to the UFC and he will train in a cage, so why are some people calling him a coward? That is ridiculous. He lost two fights that he felt that he could have won, and now he wants to retune his style and come back better.
Look, I am as dissappointed as the next guy that Mirko failed in the UFC. He fought three fights and lost two. Most other fighters would have been sent packing, but the UFC did not do that.
Why make this another issue about Dana White? Contrary to what most people think, Dana White does not want to ruin the careers of all MMA fighters. And, as a loser in two high profile fights, Mirko realizes that his stock went down and that it will be harder to justify paying him like a champion when he has not achieved anything in the UFC.

If this is all true I have to give props to Dana for this one. It's cool that he's letting Mirko do this, and it's cool that he's leaving a door open for a return.

Dang this sucks.
I love watching CC fight. Hopefully he'll make a return in a few years and be a force.
Even after his last two losses I wouldn't bet against him.

Well that is certainly some good news, now i can actually believe that CroCop could be back in the UFC. Before when he said he hoped he would be back it just felt like something you say to save face.
This really lifted my spirit, hope CroCop can pull of three wins and come back stronger then ever.

Cro Cop is a little man in a big man's game. When he got in with the big boys he got his ass kicked. I don't know why everyone is so shocked.
