The latest Matt Serra Interview
Gotta love this guy!
Quote:
|
On April 19 Matt Serra travels into Hostile territory where he looks to make lightning strike twice against MMA’s juggernaut George St. Pierre. UFC 83 at The Bell Centre in the beautiful city of Montreal has sold faster then any event in UFC history. In this MMANews.com Exclusive Matt talks about the biggest fight of his career, the psychology of being a fighter, the TUF experience, and much more.
|
I like when he calls GSP "Captain Canada"
Quote:
JB: You were a huge underdog in your first fight with GSP. You go in there and destroy him in one round. Now going into the re-match you’re a big underdog again. What gives?
MS: I think it’s the whole package with St. Pierre. I just got back from Canada where we did a press conference to hype the fight. Dana White starts off the conference talking about how sponsors are tripping over their feet to get to GSP, and how he’s shocked that Georges isn’t on a Wheaties box yet. Then he gets to me and he’s like Matt’s a really unique individual. (Laughs). But I don’t blame him I mean look at GSP. He looks like the poster boy for Crest. He’s Captain Canada!

Would you be leading the charge?
If that did happen, it might have to do with how Hughes doesn't respect (people from) other countries or gives the impression that's the case.

the difference is Serra is ALWAYS joking around so people take what he says lightly. Hughes seems to be all too serious all the time.

I said before it was a fluke that Matt knocked out GSP, well I want to retract that statement. I went threw the ole library and found UFC53 where he fought Karo. Matt did the same thing to him, but just couldnt finish it. I forgot all about that fight. This is going to be a good one.

Well, maybe Hughes insinuating that Canadians are pussies and whatnot would have something to do with that.

War Serra! He didn't exactly get the best treatment in a Canadian interview recently, at least this one doesn't put any kind of spin or bias on what's being said.

I really like Matt Serra, the guy is a character and a class act in the ring. Out of the ring he's entertaining and no BS, the guy has really grown on me. I'm a big GSP fan, but right now I don't really care who wins this fight, either way the UFC is going to have a great champ at 170.

People call Randy Captain America. I don't really think it's that big of a deal.

If only the whole Randy situation cleared up instantly and he stayed in the UFC...cause having Captain Canada and Captain America as champions in the same organization would be AWESOME.
...and Brock could be...Captain CAAAAAAAAAVE MAAAAAAN!!

That's what I thought this time last year (just a few months after GSP destroyed Matt Hughes the first time). And, then, Matt Serra came out and dominated GSP. So, in my mind, Serra is NOT an underdog. I don't care what the Vegas odds say.

Ya know, I'm really rooting for Serra. It was not a fluke on his first bout. 'But' I look at this fight like I do for a lot of football games...I'm a big college fan. Sometimes the smaller school clips the powerhouse." There is no doubt GSP is a powerhouse so to speak.
But I think Serra could do it again. If he attacks and doesn't let GSP pick his shots. I think Serra might be a bit like Cro Cop. I think the key is to press him. (i.e. Randy Couture against Silvia and Gonzaga).

well thats the definition of being an underdog, the general perception being he has a lower chance of winning than GSP. doesnt mean he wont win, but he definitely is the underdog
