Mike Swick vs. Marcus Davis at UFC 85?
Quote:
Exciting welterweights Mike Swick (11-2) and Marcus Davis (14-3) will likely throw leather at UFC 85 in London, England, at the O2 Arena on Saturday, June 7, MMAmania.com learned earlier this afternoon.
Swick and Davis have competed on different seasons of the mixed martial arts reality series, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), which airs on the SpikeTV network. And both fighters have achieved impressive results inside the Octagon since their respective seasons have wrapped.
In fact, Davis has reeled off 11 straight wins since his loss to Melvin Guillard via technical knockout (cut) back in 2005. He has won his last four contests, stopping each of those opponents with a mix of submissions and knockouts.
This will mark the fourth straight fight for the “Irish Hand Grenade” overseas — he most recently knocked out Jess Liaudin in the first round at UFC 80: “Rapid Fire” on January 19.
Swick will make his second appearance in the 170-pound division after racking up an impressive record at 185 pounds, winning five of six bouts in the UFC.
He’ll be out for redemption after a self-admitted less than thrilling performance against Josh Burkman in his welterweight debut at UFC Fight Night 12 in which he pulled out a lackluster majority decision.
Swick and Davis prefer to keep fights standing, but are both solid on the ground. This has all the makings of an up-and-down slugfest that could be show stealer.
And that’s saying a lot with the main event between 205-pound standouts, Chuck Liddell and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, penciled in to headline the show.

This should be a really good fight if it ends up happening. We will finally get to see if Davis is the real deal. I'll be pulling for Swick though.

Hmmm...Thanks for the news, CP.
Normally I'd pick Swick over Davis, but Swick hasn't really looked good as of late.

I think this is a bad match up for Swick.
Swick needs to watch some of his pre-Okami fights and get back into the groove if he wants to beat Davis.
I sense that Swick is not sure what direction to go and he feels a bit lost right now.
Has Swick changed his camp or coach since the Okami fight?

I've liked Davis since watching him beat Shonie Carter. I'll be rooting for him here.

Marcus Davis vs Mike Swick
once again just wondering about people's opinions for this fight at UFC 85, and what would be instore for both fighters should they win or lose. Personally i think Mike Swick is going to get KTFO by Davis and i dont think he has the tools to be a top contender in any division in this organization. Davis on the other hand if he wins it will be his 12 in a row a la Jon Fitch and then he should step up in competition and take on a Josh Koscheck or the winner of Parisyan/Alves.

Davis has been on a hot streak because he's been fighting nobodies.
-An over the hill Shonie Carter, who fought like a zombie.
-Pete Spratt, whose ground game is just slightly below myself.
-Taylor,Laudin,Tan-Taylor dropped Davis, and the rest weren't real competition.
Swick was tentative because it was his first fight at WW and he was fighting a wrestler.
Davis will try to bang, and Swick is longer, faster, and has gone the distance with huge MWs.
I expect Swick to win quite handedly.

He was also extremely tentative vs. Loiseau and Okami. The Burkman fight wasn't the first time a Swick fight received boos, in fact it made 3 in a row. Swick is a huge question mark in my book. I got Davis in this one.

Well Okami is a monster and much like Burkman he is a GNP guy.Swick was not looking to open up,and losing to him is not necessarily a bad thing.Loiseau, though his career is on a downturn now,was still considered very dangerous at the time.Swick still won a UD.
Either way Okami and Loiseau are still lightyears tougher than anyone Davis has fought.

This should be a great fight, even if Swick fights tentatively like he did against Burkman - I'll be pulling for Davis for sure.
