Default New Weight Classes in UFC

i have heard from a couple not reliable sources that the UFC is thinking about dividing up the weight classes like making a 195lb or a 240lb or a 175lb division. i am extremely against this and think it would be absoulutely stupid. i am just wondering if anyone knows anything or if there is any truth to this at all?

Yea im not buying it. Especially with no sources?

No reason for new weight classes. They hardly have enough talent at the moment to keep the MW and even HW exciting.

I can't see a new division for 175 and 195. We are not in boxing. The champ of 170 could be easy the champs of 175 too.

I see maybe lhw at 205, and maybe new division between lhw and hw. Only that or 145lbs

Not to mention that these weight classes are not in the Unified Rules which 99% of athletic commissions use anyhow, sans from setting bouts at catchweight and promoting said bouts as a new class...

yeah. total bs.

False rumor. The weight classes that the UFC has used for the last 8 years were not developed by the UFC, but rather are part of the Unified Rules of MMA as written by New Jersey State Athletic Commission in 2000. Almost all the North American and European based organizations have used those weight classes. Only EliteXC, in an effort to cater their weight classes to specific fighters under contract (ie. Nick Diaz and Gina Carano) have changed their weight classes a bit.

The UFC brass would love to see knees to the head on the ground legalized, but its the athletic commissions that have to change the rules, not the UFC. Same with the rounds.
