Default Shogun injures knee again... another surgery

Quote:
Scheduled to make his return to the Octagon this June against Chuck Liddell at UFC 85 in London, light heavyweight star Mauricio “Shogun” Rua has instead been forced to withdraw from the bout due to a ruptured ACL in his left knee, the same injury he had surgery on to repair last October after his UFC 76 fight with Forrest Griffin.

Surgery on the injured knee will be scheduled shortly, and there is no word on when Rua will be cleared to return to the Octagon.

One of the game’s top 205-pound fighters, the 26-year old Rua was looking to get back in the win column after his defeat at the hands
of Griffin last year, and his bout with Liddell was just the motivation he needed to train like never before.

“I’ve never seen Shogun so motivated for a fight like this in years,” said Rua spokesman Eduardo Alonso. “This was like a new beginning for him.”

Liddell’s opponent for UFC 85, which will be held at London’s O2 Arena on June 7th, will be announced shortly. As for Rua, he promises to be back and better than ever as soon as possible.

“He thanks his fans for all the support,” said Alonso. “It means a lot to him.”

Default Shogun Re-Injures Knee: Out Of 85

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (16-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) has re-injured his knee and has been scratched from a UFC 85 main event with Chuck Liddell (21-5 MMA, 16-4 UFC).

The news comes from Thomas Gerbasi of UFC.com. According to the report, Rua ruptured the ACL in his left knee, which is the same injury that forced a surgery after a UFC 76 loss to Forrest Griffin.

UFC 85 takes place June 5 at the 02 Arena in London, England. The UFC will "shortly" announce a replacement "shortly."

Per MMAjunkie.

SON OF A BITCH!!! This is so disheartening. I hope he takes as much time as he needs to recover but man this is sooooo lame.

GET WELL SOON TO THE BEST FIGHTER IN HISTORY!!!

Well with Page, Griffin, Machida, and Jardine all locked up in fights, who is a logical choice for Chuck to face now? Maybe Sokoudjou will step up and fight him!

Ya what a bust this is. I was REALLLLY looking forward to this fight.

Damnnn youuu injuriesss!!!

Evans and Silva are set to face off already right? And like nublood said, so are Wandy, Jardine, Machida, Ortiz, Page, and Griffen.

So what now? Even though Liddel vs Soko would be an entertaining fight, it doesnt make much sense to me at this point.

The only other logical fight would be ..... Liddel vs .... who?

Evans and Silva?

Edit: Your right. He's set to face Thiago Silva at 84 possibly. So that eliminates ol' Sugar from the picture.

Damn how I wish it were April fool's day today!

Ah well, I wouldn't want to see him fight without being healthy again. Let's hope he has a speedy recovery!

Another thing is, I think if Houston Alexander gets a quick and predictable KO over Irvin at the Fight Night they could headline the show with that. Its a free show so the main event doesnt need to be THAT big, plus Chuck will draw regardless.

Man, I was just looking at the UFC roster and there is not really ANY logical choices for him right now. Sok is a stretch but he may just fit the bill. Unless Dana pulls somebody from another org I don't know who they'll put in front of him. And I KNOW Chuck doesn't want to wait any longer.

Another idea is Vitor Belfort. Didn't he say he was in talks with the UFC recently?
