I really think this might turn into one of the classic sports stories of not being able to get over the hump. It happens in sports all the time, and I can honestly see it happening here.

I'm staying with last times prediction. GSP "SHOULD" be able to take this fight more often than not. He was way too damn cautious last time & just wasn't all there mentally....which he does occasionally, as we know.
I'm not a Serra fan by any means...but I also don't mean to be disrespectful by saying, that I just don't really see him as earning the ranking that he currently has. From what I have seen of him in his fights...he was in a limbo sort of state prior to TUF for a reason. He made the most of the chance he was given and beat GSP straight up....but I just do not see him being in that position with out the TUF opportunity that he had.
But I do not see him working his way up through contender after contender the way that GSP did over the last few years. I mean be honest....Georges has fought against competition every bit as tough, or tougher than Serra has & only has 2 losses on his record. Hughes & Serra...that's it.
Meanwhile Serra for the most part, has been streaky and inconsistent throughout his career. I just don't think that he would even be in the spot he's in, without the "shortcut" of TUF. I have a hard time seeing him as a perennial Top 10 fighter...mainly, because he hasn't been.
But again...their paths to this point are irrelevant, if Georges can't step up & take him out. I think that GSP will do it this time out...but obviously, anything can happen. LOL

I totally agree. Matt Serra will lose this before he even steps into the octagon. Look at Hughes/GSP 2, GSP was focused, determined and probably a little pissed off. Hughes never had a chance, he lost long before the fight actually ended.
I think this fight is the same situation. GSP lost the first fight and will win the second fight, even before it's over. He's pissed off and is going to take the WW title whether Serra likes it or not. And there is nothing Matty boy can do about it.

Being level headed is far better than being "pissed off" going into a fight. It's kinda like going in unfocused, undetermined and really pissed off

heres how i think the fight goes: they come out in rd1 and feel each other out a little bit standing up some leg kicks by GSP and some wild bombs by Serra. Serra may even rock GSP a little bit. GSP wakes up and takes Serra down where he grounds him for a while and they will roll a little bit. Round two comes out much of the same with GSP taking him down faster and without getting rocked this time. Some good ground and pound with serra eventually giving up his back (see frank trigg) and GSP winning with Round 2 Submission via Rear Naked Choke

I watched their bout at UFC 69 online a few hours ago and Serra really dominated... but I'm taking GSP for this match as he really impressed me in his demolition of Matt Hughes at 79 (which I watched right after the Serra match).

I'd go as far as to say i'd be amazed at anything other than a GSP victory. I was really surprised to see Serra win last time and i'd be even more surprised if it happened this time.

This is gonna be a war, and I can't wait for it. I guarantee this fight is a lot closer than most people think and I've actually got Serra in a repeat performance. Serra via TKO, rd. 4.

You know what man...I have the same feeling you do. I think Serra has GSP's number.

For all the guys saying Serra only got "heavier hands" then GSP.
Do you really mean GSP have better BJJ then Serra? I`m not to sure about that.
I would say Serra is a much better fighter on his back then Matt H.
Its gonna be fun to see how this fight goes, GSP have not really been striking at all since his last loss to Serra.
I give Serra a better chance then a lot of other people here.
WAR Serra!

haha, I kinda have the feeling that Serra could pull it off again, doubt it, but I see where you all are coming from. I think it's important that before the GSP fight, Serra was known more as a ground guy....I just see him doing something this fight we (and GSP) don't expect. I think he's crafty and will come in w/ an interesting strategy.....which might be to attack pretty quick again before GSP sits back and picks him apart.

Hum why people say that Serra have maybe the number of GSP??
If everyone remember. Hughes beat GSP in first match up and after, GSP came back very more strong and beat Hughes 2 times. So that what gonna happen in mtl . Thrust me. GSP is ready for war.
And i really don't see anything that Serra will be able to beat GSP.

Serra has a much better shot at "having GSP's number" than Hughes.
-Hughes is worse off his back (which is where GSP can put pretty much any WW) AND standing than Serra.
-With Hughes GSP didn't have to worry about any KO power. Hughes doesn't have it. GSP won't feel as confident dancing with Serra, believe me.
-Don't see anything? Craziness.
GSP submitting or TKOing Serra on the ground is much more unlikely than in the case of Hughes imo. The fight is 5 rounds. Every round starts standing. Serra has that KO power and he's gonna go in balls out, unlike Hughes.
Don't get me wrong, I'm picking GSP in this one. But come on.
And no, I won't thrust you. Ewww.
Unless you're that chick in your av.

I have to go with my boy gsp. he did say that losing to serra has made him more focused, andd the fact that he is mad and the dominating performance he showed over matt hughes. i just see gsp coming back and having a pretty long title reign. i think that gsp will either take serra down and gnp or hopefully i see a headkick knockout for gsp.

I don't understand why everyone is so certain that fighting angry is such a good thing. Some fighters, like Wandy, can fight with their emotions. I'm not so sure GSP can.

Gooner's right. Serra knows how to throw punches and throw them with something behind 'em. After all, it's MMA. Fighters these days need to be well rounded.

I tend to think that Serra was lucky enough to fight GSP at a time when he was'nt mentally all there. GSP was'nt focused solely on his match with Serra, was'nt focused on the job at hand and he lost. This fight will be differant. GSP will have a plan and be able to execute it. Serra will be overwhelmed and lose by either KO or submission. What i don't see it GSP looking to trade strikes with Serra on the inside where Serra's short arms and heavy hands give him the advantage. GSP will stay out of that range and pick Serra apart from the outside or take the fight to the ground and overwhelm Serra there. Add in that Serra has been out of action for quite some time rehabing a back injury and i don't give Serra a prayer. Now take into account that i am always wrong with my predictions and Serra wins.
