Default BJ: "Id make Lauzon fight me...."

B.J. Penn: I'd Make Joe Lauzon Fight Me - MMAjunkie.com

Quote:
If Joe Lauzon (16-3 MMA, 3-0 UFC) beats Kenny Florian in their UFC Fight Night 13 main event, and if B.J. Penn (12-4-1 MMA, 8-3-1 UFC) successfully defends his title against Sean Sherk at UFC 83, a Lauzon-Penn title fight could be on the horizon -- according to Penn, anyway.

Although the two training partners would seem unlikely opponents, Penn says he would make Lauzon fight him so the youngster could "realize his dreams."

Our friend Tracy Lee from CombatLifestyle.com is in Hilo, Hawaii, this week with Lauzon and Penn (and WEC featherweight champ Urijah Faber), photographing their training and pre-fight preparations, and discussed the potential title fight with Penn.

In her latest blog, Lee wrote about yesterday's chat:

We started chatting about what he thought of Joe's upcoming fight; BJ feels that Joe has a very good chance of winning his fight against Kenny Florian for Ultimate Fight Night in Broomfield, CO. "If Joe does win, and I win the belt, there's a good chance that we may have to fight each other." I quickly responded, "But you guys wouldn't do that, would you?" BJ said, "He would have to fight me if he wants to be the champion. I want him to realize his dreams; I would make him fight me."

Lauzon and Penn first began working together on the fifth season of "The Ultimate Fighter." Eventual show runner-up Manny Gamburyan knocked Lauzon out of the competition in the semifinals, but he's since posted decisive submission victories over Brandon Melendez and Jason Reinhardt. Additionally, before appearing on the show, Lauzon scored an upset of former UFC champ Jens Pulver. A victory over Florian -- one of the lightweight division's top contenders -- could put the 23-year-old in the thick of the title picture.

For more on their training, including dozens of photographs, check out Day 1 and Day 2 of Lee's journal.
I think thats a great attitude. If it were to happen I dont see the fight going Joe's way, but Id love to see it all the same!

I'm still surprised Mini-Manny beat Lauzon.

Maybe some day for BJ v. Lauzon but, for some reason, I just don't see Kenny losing to him.

There are a lot of great photos of BJ training with Joe on CombatLifestyle.com where this story came from. Also working out with them is WEC champ Urijah Faber. As good as Urijah is, training with BJ's team some could make him even nastier. You think BJ giving him any extra tips on how to beat Pulver?

Check the photos out here and here.

I heard some rumors(on yahoo web page) where the might let two guys out of Kos, Fitch, Swick go because they won't fight each other. I don't want to see any of them leave. It's good to know that some guys will fight anyone.

I want him to realize his dreams; I would make him fight me.

So is Joe's dream to get beat up and choked out by BJ Penn? He probably gets a lot of that already in practice. ;~)

I would hope that the next title fight would not go to either Florian or Lauzon. Edgar should be next up IMO, but I'd rather see Gomi.

Lauzon is ages away from being able to cope with BJ. I like Joe, but Florian should send him back to reality. As far as I am concerned he is very lucky to be getting #1 contender, Ken Flo. Looking past that is just nuts.

Other than a flash knockout of a faded Jens Pulver, what exactly has Joe Lauzon done to be held in such high esteem? Anybody can run into a punch and get dropped. I checked his record, and there are very few fighters on his resume I have ever even heard of.

So other than training with Penn and a flash KO over Jens, what exactly are the attributes that make people feel Lauzon is so outstanding?

Last time I saw him he look`d great.
He put on a very nice rare naked choke after short time.
I think he looks very good and belive he is talented. He will get his chance to proove it now. Lets see how great he is, I think he might have a good chance to win.

I still laugh everytime someone says BJ's name... lol BJ...

On a more serious note though, I don't think Lauzon will beat Ken-Flo.

I have a feeling that Nate is suffering at the hands of the UFC because of his last name.

I think that Lauzon is definitely lucky to be getting a shot at Kenflo so early, but I think he will do just fine.

You said that anybody can run into a punch and be dropped...... yeah, it's called a knockout, and to me it just sounds like you aren't giving Joe the credit of beating Pulver. I agree that he hasn't beat any top contenders yet, but he has a chance to prove that he belongs with the top of the division in his next fight. And imo he has a good chance of winning.

I really dont think Joe is even comparable to Nate as a fighter. Lauzon has that win over Jens to fall back on but seriously putting his name in the same context as title contention?

Kind of on the same topic I think KFlo/BJ would be a BATTLE

That would be very one-sided. Ken-Flo is outclassed everywhere, especially in strength.

LOL. Agreed. Nothing against Lauzon because I think he's a great figther, but what has he done that puts him ahead of Nate? I think Diaz has looked as impressive if not more so than Lauzon.

I dont think Lauzon will get past Ken-Flo but if he does i still think he needs another win against top competition to get a title shot.

I don't mean to down the kid, I am just honestly at a loss for what so many seem to see in him. I had never seen any of his fights outside the UFC so I thought maybe he had destroyed some really tough guys that I had just never heard of. But outside of Pulver I have heard of none of those guys. On TUF I thought Joe was maybe the 4th most talented fighter on the show.

Who knows, he might beat Kenny. If he does it will suggest to me that training with BJ made the difference and that Joe is much improved from when on the TUF 5 Series. I will be surprised if he does though.

Many like Lauzon thats why they give him a topranked opponent. If he loses they can still build him up again with the explanation that he wasnt ready just. Should he win they have a very popular fighter that after maybe 1-2 more bouts can have a title shot.

But i think Kenflo will take this one.
