I would not be shocked if he says hes going to retire, especially with all of his injuries over the years.

Probably some lame announcement like he got a new sponser or something thou.

I dont think it will be a new sponsor... i doubt Tim would use that language if it was something that small.

Retire or leaving UFC.

This could really be anything. He has had a few melodramatic announcements in the past, but if I were to guess I would say he is leaving the UFC.

I think the same thing. I highly doubt he is retiring. Doubtful he would be pushing this as big news if he was hanging it up.

I hope he's not retiring, i feel bad for the guy cause he gets so much hate. I hope whatever he does is in the best interest for himself

Two-Time Heavyweight Champion Could Make Announcement Friday

By Brian Knapp (bknapp@thefightnetwork.com)

Two-time UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia could announce his decision to leave the Las Vegas-based promotion as early as Friday, according to a source close to the situation. Sylvia, who has one fight remaining on his current contract with the UFC, submitted to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in a bout for the interim heavyweight championship at UFC 81 in February.

Sylvia’s departure could set the stage for a lucrative match with former Pride heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko later this year. Still widely regarded as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Emelianenko’s services are being sought by a number of potential suitors, including EliteXC.

Sylvia (24-4) has won seven of his last nine fights – the lone defeats coming to Nogueira and Randy Couture, two of the greatest heavyweights of all time. Based out of the Miletich Fighting Systems camp in Bettendorf, Iowa, the gangly, 6-foot-8 Sylvia underwent back surgery following his unanimous decision loss to Couture at UFC 68 in March 2007. He made a successful return to the Octagon in October, as he handed Brandon Vera his first professional defeat at UFC 77.

The 32-year-old Sylvia owns victories against former UFC heavyweight champions Andrei Arlovski (twice) and Ricco Rodriguez. He has also defeated the American Top Team’s Jeff Monson, Mike Whitehead (twice) and Ben Rothwell. Nineteen of his 24 career wins have come by knockout, technical knockout or submission.

I think he's going to announce that he's joining the Staties.

Tim mentioned leaving before so thats probably what he's going to announce. I can't see him making another run at the UFC heavyweight belt again. He could but the match-ups are'nt there for him. If he can leave and get a fight with Fedor more power to him.

That was my initial thought.

The UFC can't seem to keep their HW's.
CC and Sylvia in the same year. Heavyweights in '08 gotsta be giving Dana a heart attack.

Big Tim really doesn't get enough respect. I would like to see him fight Randy again, and/or Fedor. I truly believe there is enough big money getting interested in MMA that Tim will get a very nice payday with a different organization. "Former 4 Time UFC Champ now fighting for Elite XC or whoever" etc. etc.

If Dana loses all his HW fighters he will just do an interview about how th HW div. sucks and how all those @#%!$! Fat #$@*!&% really aren't worth watching anyway.......

Or just abandon the division, as he did with the lightweights between 2005 and whenever it was that he brought it back (UFC 60-something). Can't see them abandoning the H/W division but you never know...

I hope that it is a rematch with Mir. Tim always said he wanted that rematch.

I would rather see Tim fight Nog again than Mir/Nog. I don't think Mir deserves a title fight yet.

thats sucks ass if he is leaving, but then again as long as he isnt retiring its good cuz Tim will NOT be one of those guys fighting small shows just to pad his record

if he is leaving i promise it is to fight Fedor or Barnett or take up Schilt's challenge or something...IMO

He's probably moving to LW and is beginning training to fight the Penn/Sherk winner.

I'm hoping that Sylvia signs with which ever org signs Fedor. I am very confident that Tim will outclass Fedor and regain his status as the #1 HW in the world.
