GSP is a "mental midget" -- Pete Sell
Here's some more stuff to hype up the fight.
And some of what Pete says is true. Ya know, people keep talking about all the training GSP does and how he can lift this much more than before, etc. It's almost like the media and fans are trying to convince GSP that he can win. The mental game is big and yes, GSP should win.
For the record, I like GSP and I like Serra...rooting for New York here though.
Oh...and Sell confirmed he's making the drop to welterweight.
Pete Sell: Georges St. Pierre is a "mental midget" - MMAjunkie.com
Quote:
Pete Sell, recovering from a torn labrum that's kept him sidelined for more than five months, will corner friend Matt Serra during his UFC 83 title defense with Georges St. Pierre, and he had some less-than-flattering things to say about the popular Canadian fighter.
"GSP is an awesome athlete," Sell told fightticker.com. "He has all the tools to dominate, but he is a mental midget. His mentality is very weak."
Sell's harsh critique could be the result of St. Pierre's comments after his April 2007 loss to Serra, one of the biggest upsets in MMA history. Sell took offense to the way St. Pierre "flip-flopped" when it came to justifying the loss.
"He is a very nice guy and I have hung out with him, but I don't like the way he flip-flopped after the first fight with Serra," Sell said. "GSP was cool right after the fight, but about five weeks afterwards, he started making excuses saying he didn't train properly, then GSP retracted and said Serra was the better man that night. Well what was it?
"I don't like how his story changed."
Serra and St. Pierre, whose relationship was once characterized as a respectful rivalry, took a turn for the worse after the comments by St. Pierre. Spurned also by St. Pierre's claims that he took the fight lightly and only decided to fight through an injury because he figured he could win anyway, Serra went on the offensive. He's never shied away from giving his honest opinions about "Frenchie" during recent interviews.
The rivalry has created a lot of hype for their UFC 83 main event fight, which takes place April 19 at Montreal's Bell Centre.
St. Pierre has the home-field advantage, but Sell doubts it'll be a factor.
"I believe that all the pressure is on GSP, especially considering he is fighting in front of his countrymen," Sell said. "Serra thrives on the pressure and likes the underdog role. Matt Serra is all heart, and GSP is the type of guy that if they were in a bar, GSP would back down from a fight while Serra is down for whatever."
In the fightticker.com interview, Sell (7-4 MMA, 1-4 UFC) also confirmed that he's making a move down to welterweight. Sell competed as a middleweight on a "comeback" season of "The Ultimate Fighter 4" and has dropped three straight fights at the weight class since then.
Sell is currently signed to a deal with the UFC, and his contract was extended six months because of his injury.

GSP's credentials within the octagon are enough imo to negate any "flip-flopping" that he might have in his story. Maybe he didn't commit to his training like he should have, after all, nobody expected Serra to have a chance to beat him. In any case, I just see this as Sell talking trash when his record in the octagon proves that he should just keep his mouth shut.

I got an idea, how about Serra and his camp move on and stop focusing on the last fight, and maybe start focusing on the fight coming up.

Think the media has anything to do with the questions being asked?

I like Pete Sell, he's a tough, if not so successful, fighter. In this case though i don't really care what he has to say. If he was'nt talking about GSP i don't think anyone would even be paying attention to Sell. Everyone is using this fight to make a buck, sell a magazine, get thier name out etc.. As for GSP flip floppin', this is not politics, its hype before a fight. Once Serra and GSP throwdown in the cage we'll really see who was putting the work in at the gym. The talk, the magazine articles and Pete Sell won't matter.

Yes Sir!!! Its going to be the differance in the fight with Serra. I'll be surprised if Matt even comes to the cage if he finds out.

LOL! Pete Sell is a genius.
Time for an IQ test. I'll put my money on GSP's IQ being at least 30% higher.

I think their (possible) mental midgetness is of different type though.
-GSP as far as confidence and heart - probably not an issue anymore.
-Sell as far as IQ. I mean, he seems like an OK guy. But a bit of a doofus.

Something that not a lot of people are talking about is how Pete will fit in at welterweight. I think he will do good. Him vs Fitch would be cool.

are you kidding? gsp is the kind of person who learns from a loss, and you should see that by how he came back from "giving matt hughes too much respect" to dominating him in their last two matches. i think that gsp is very mentally strong as well as physically and he is going to put it on serra.

LOL I was thinking the exact same thing. Who the heck is Pete Sell to be saying anything about anyone. Especially a guy with a record like GSP's?

"Mental Midget" What the F does that even mean?
If anything GSP is the opposite. Look at his abilites and stature. I love how people mistake kindness for weakness.

I am sure GSP's "intelligence" (or lack thereof) gets lost in translation. I like Sell, but he's a moron if he can't see through that. Every time Georges speaks in French he is much more articulate and comfortable.
