Silva does have a suspect TD defense, but it doesn't really matter because he is good on the ground (on top or on his back). GSP would surely be able to take him down, but I don't think he'd be able to do much if anything with it.
GSP is a big WW so MW would be more of a natural class for him. He was able to toss Kos and Hughes around because he is without a doubt the strongest in that division. So as far as size and strength it might be even. However, BJ Penn was able to get in some pretty nice shots on GSP and BJ's striking isn't on Silva's level.
I would pay to see this fight, even if it were to end early. I think it would be a close fight but Silva will pull away as the fight progresses and get the win.

I am what you would say a, [clears throat], "GSP nuthugger". But even i don't think GSP could defend against Silva's striking.

i am going to go with the majority of the crowd here and say silva would beat GSP decisively , well , put it this way , I think Dan Henderson can beat GSP, and Silva made Hendo look easy to beat ! lol
Silva also has the reach advantage and height over GSP , and silva would find it easy to punch GSP, GSP would have to run in and get close to silva to strike , and let me tell you , thats not easy.
I dont think GSP is a big Welterweight, i think he's fits perfect in WW , if he had to step into Middleweight , he'd be one of if not, the smallest guy in MW, his weight fits MW, but his height and reach suit WW better IMO.

Height wise yes he might be one of the smaller fighters in the MW division, but that means absolutely nothing. He will definitely be stronger than some of the fighters at 185. Just look at his frame and compare it to other fighters at 170, and you'll see he is a big 170. He would have no problem packing on more muscle.
This is the same guy (GSP) that tossed Rashad Evans around during training. Rashad Evans, a D-1 wrestler, a man who is two weight classes above him. GSP could easily do MW. I still say he would lose against Silva, however.

Not sure about the whole Rashad thing but I just couldn't see GSP in a million years controlling Silva..
I understand GSP is very good and at WW, I would say he is the "Silva" of WW.. However I don't think he would do worth a DAMN against Silva at MW.. I think Silva could easly take on allot of LHW let alone someone that is CONSIDERABLY smaller in GSP.. Sorry GSP fans, but Iam afraid if these two ever meet GSP would wake up wondering if anyone had gotten the lisence plate of that truck...

The whole Rashad thing was on MMA weekly.
To add, I'm not a GSP nut hugger, I agreed with most and said Silva would walk away with the win. I just don't think he would destroy him like he did Franklin and Leben. GSP is much more mobile and polished than either Franklin or Leben.
