Thats a pretty big statement. And just because Jake was in the UFC, doesn't mean he was good.

Vera is also one of the prospects they have left under contract, but I wouldnt be suprised if he cuts down to LHW.
But right now he's still a heavyweight. So there are plenty of potential match-ups for him.

LOL @ Brock Lesner, 1-1 and fighting in a circus in his next fight really adds depth to a lacking division.
I've never liked Lesnar, but tell me you won't be watching his fights. I mean, you do watch more fights than anyone else on the forum.

I guess it's just one of those things. Both the Hw and Mw division are lacking in comparision to the others. I be honest, I wish the Hw division was stacked just a little more. Sure there could be better match ups at Hw. Thats the thing to me is that there is always room for improvement, but in the mean time I really enjoy Herring cold cocking Kongo in the begining of every rd in their last fight.

Ok so you do think Lesner is a legit prospect, or a way for Zuffa to cash in and make some bread? Who wins Coleman or Lesner and why? Finally, is this fight a glorified freakshow?

Freak show or not, I'm pretty sure Lesnar would whoop O'Brien's ass.

He seems like a pretty one-dimensional fighter, and Lesnar is better at that dimension.

I'm surprised that a lot of people don't care that O'Brien is gone, the heavyweight division needs people desparately, I mean they were pushing Herring-Kongo as a big time matchup. Herring is a shell of his Pride days, it was obvious Kongo worked his ground game but even so, herring should have dominated him on the ground, not just control him, and he didn't. With that said if O'Brien wins a few fights(perferably by stoppage not decision) he will be back in the UFC and if not it will be because he got paid more elsewhere, either way he wins!

No doubt. If its the main event I will be watching it via free internet stream, and if there is a legit main event I will be purchasing the event like I have since UFC 40.

So then do you admit you'll be watching a trash fight?

To answer your questions, no I don't think Lesnar vs Coleman is a contenders match. But Brock is very strong and has wrestling skills that create the potential for an upset victory despite only having 2 MMA fights.

Zuffa is in the business of making money. People will pay to watch Lesnar. I'm not paying money to watch him specifically. I pay for and watch every event. Brock Lesnar just happens to be on the cards I pay for.

Kongo, Gonzaga, Mir, Nogueira, Lesnar, Vera, Hardonk, Werdum...

Granted the division is not the most stack in the UFC; but I'd rather watch any of the above than O'Brien. I respect him as an athlete and a competitor, but he does not put enough people in seats!

Strange choice, I reckon. Admittedly he wasnt the most exciting fighter, but nor is Sherk and we all know how much Dana loves him up. I always thought the difference between American MMA v Japanese MMA was that in America that emphasis was on winning rather than just being exciting....maybe the UFC is heading more in Pride's direction than they'd like to admit?

Jake O'Brien (10-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC), a 23-year-old heavyweight who suffered his first professional loss to Andrei Arlovski in March, has been released from the UFC and has agreed to a two-fight deal with the Palace Fighting Championship.

MMAjunkie.com today confirmed the turn of events with Ken Pavia, O'Brien's manager.

Needless to say, Pavia was a bit surprised by the UFC's decision to sever ties with O'Brien, a former Purdue University wrestler who had finished eight of his 10 professional victories via knockout -- seven of which came in the first round.

Uhh what the hell Zuffa? The heavyweight division is in pure shambles and you release the best prospect HW you have under contract because of 1 loss to a guy who was on his way out of the company and a former champion. WTF? Sure Irish had the "boring lay and prayer" stigma to him but still the kid is young and starting to learn a little bit. Why not send him to the WEC and let him raise all hell in that crappy division. I normally back Zuffa 100% but this is just a horrible move. Terrible
I'm with you dude. I was just talking about this yesterday with a bud of mine and we both were surprised to see him go.

His win over Herring wasn't that great either, but his fight with AA was just horrible.
He kept avoiding any exchanges and kept shooting from way too far, AA sprawled and let him up, repeat...

I'm not sure he's that big of a "prospect" either.
I completely agree.
