No not at all. Not meaning any disrespect but he was for sure top 10 after beating GSP. Now if you can jump to top 10 status fast by upsetting the best you can also fall just as fast. JMHO

Im not denying Hughes's legacy but imo rankings should be on the premise of "what have you done for me lately?".
Well in the last 18months, Serra has beaten and lost to GSP.
Hughes has beaten Lytle and lost to GSP.
So they both have losses to GSP and one other win....I think a win over GSP is worth more than a win over Lytle, PLUS the fact that Serra has also beaten Lytle, so all in all Id currently rank Serra over Hughes. Hughes is undoubtedly a top 10 WW and therefore so is Serra imo.

Agreed. That's why I was wondering about the "history" or "recent performance" factors.

see i guess that is were we differ... i dont believe rankings should be "what hae you done for me lately?" but more of a "can this guy still **** some **** up and has he proven it?"
if you beat a bunch of top guys and lose to a top guy you are in the top 10 i would suspect... if you beat 1 top guy and lose to that same top guy and dont fight anyone else it was a lucky fluke to be in the top 10

It should be a healthy mix IMO. Rankings aren't all black and white. There's a huge gray area considering all variables, which is why rankings differ from person to person and averaging them all out seems to be the only viable method.

Is Matt Hughes top ten? I believe both Serra and Hughes got dominated by GSP in similar fashion. So, basically, you either make GSP own every spot from 1 to 10, or you concede that both Hughes and Serra ARE indeed top ten.

I personally don't think Serra should be top 10... I disagree that winning one fight can catapult you straight into a top ten spot. It's a similar situation to the one we had with Gonzaga - He was relatively unknown then he comes in and wins one big fight - By knocking out Cro Cop and then he was popping up in lots of people top 10 list. It should take more than one fight to get into a top 10 spot IMO

Fights make rankings and those two were the last 2 top contenders. So, yeah, they are top 10. No question about it.

If we start takeing the last person to hold the title and to beat GSP who happend to be the champ at this very moment of the top 10 list cus he lost to GSP in the second fight, well then we are really lost and should stop making any ranks
Just my 2 cents.
