Unrated UFC 84 Thread
How does a thread become official, anyway?
This is looking to be one of the best PPVs in a long time. LW dream match, LHW slugfest, Lyoto Machida running circles around Tito Ortiz, and then Wilson Gouveia fighting...what do you guys know about Goran Reljic? I think Wilson Gouveia is top notch, future title contender material. I've bet on him every fight and he hasn't let me down yet.

im liking the wanderlei silva vs keith jardine fight, that's gonna be a slugfest and a half and i see it ending VERY quickly and in devastating fashion.
i hope Wanderlei takes it though.
wilson goviea's standup is nice and i would like to see him win in this one to.
BJ @#%$$#@^% PENN BABY!
BJ is the best, nuff said.

Looking forward to Machida wiping the floor with Tito....maybe then people will actually acknowledge his undefeated streak.
Wandy vs. Jardine is going to rock the house.
LW dream match indeed....WAR PENN!

When Sokoudjou is on the under card, then you KNOW this card is stacked!
Hopefully it won't turn out like UFC 73 with the same name.
I really hope Penn beats the ever-living nandrolene out of Sherk!

I still don't understand why they can't take one of the LHW bouts from this and move it to 85. It wouldn't hurt this card, but would give 85 some name power.

because fighters train to peak at certain times, and moving fights to please some fans would be bull**** for the athletes

I suggested the same thing, and if you moved say... Wandy vs. Jardine back 2 weeks, with enough notice it probably wouldn't make a huge difference to their training.

This a great card imo. I think its a very risky fight for Jardine. He is right there in line for a title fight(machida is the only one that could be closer imo) and if he loses to Wandy which could very well happen he takes a hit hard on title contention. The only good thing for that can come from him losing would be for Machida as he would have to be HANDS DOWN next in line, should he beat ortiz of course.
The question is if Jardine and Machida are both winners, who gets the shot? or do they fight each other...... Thoughts?

Moving a fight forward, yes, I see that as a problem, but moving a fight back 2 weeks (while we're still a month away from the original fight date) does not seem like it would be an issue to me. Yes, I'm not a fighter, but I can't see how you can state so definitively that it would hurt a fighter.
Now, reasons why the UFC wouldn't move the fight could be: contract issues, geographic location (going from the states to the UK) and the fact that 84 is in Vegas (they love to load up the Vegas cards).
But, even with those reasons, I still think that the UFC should try and beef up the 85 card with a big-name matchup. Yes, to please the fans that pay them!

It's pretty well known in the fight game that a training camp is much like a plot structure of a book. Humor me here for a second: Training camps are geared towards "climaxing" at the right time so you are in peak condition for the fight. The "falling action" is the actual fight and the "denouement" or "resolution" is who wins or loses. An early or late climax makes for a ****ty book, and it goes the same for a fighter. Two weeks could be the difference between being in top physical shape or being severely over trained.
Top fighters who have been at this for years, know exactly how long they need to train, when they need to go hard, and when they need to back off. The potential is defintely there. You can't say for sure, but it's certainly not fair for the promotion to put one of their top fighters in that type of situation.

I gotta go with Jardine. He beat Chuck when everyone pretty well thought he was still unbeatable, and Wandy, even with three consecutive losses, is still a big deal. Machida.... I'm still a cynic, and unfortunately still will be even if he beats Tito. I have no doubt in his ability, but he just hasn't beat a top ten in my mind. I don't put much stock in his win over Soko, because he could still prove to be nothing more than a flash in the pan. And Tito hasn't done anything in a long time, so I don't know if Lyoto beating him up will do anything to convince Dana he's ready.

The reason Dana gave Machida this fight was that that he could gain some marketability b/4 he gets a title shot. Also, eventhough Tito is not at his peak, he is still a tough fighter to beat. If Machida wins impressively I bet he will get the next title shot or 1 shortly there after.....

i agree with you on the question of who is next in line... if both win they should definitely fight for number 1 spot on the soonest card!

I would like to see Lyoto get a title shot, then Jardine. (if both win their upcoming matches)
However, since TUF screwed everything up, Jardine would have to wait entirely way too long.
Therefore, Jardine needs to face and win one more match - possibly loser of Griffin/Page

I agree Lyoto First then Jardine. I say let Jardine beat Wandy and then redeem his lost to H.Alexander. That lost to Alexander puts a road block on Title Rd for him.

I'd say Lyoto for a title shot before Jardine if they both win. Jardine's loss to Houston kinda puts him down the pecking order a little bit. Then again if Lyoto wins a split decision and Jardine absolutely destroys Wandy then i might change my mind
Picks for that night will be BJ, LYOTO, WANDY, GOUVEIA, SILVA.....i'd do the undercard but cant remember it off hand
