Vera trained his ass off and got ripped off as did the fans by a bad stoppage.

I agree. critics aside. Vera was still in that fight. Bad stoppage. Vera Gonzaga would be awesome.

Geez, even Vera's complaints are overrated.

I like Vera, I was hoping he'd win this fight to stay in the HW to keep things interesting (as that division is kind of boring) but I think this is a definite sign to go to LHW.
The stoppage, I'm not sure you can call it premature. I don't think it matters if there's 2:30 left or :30 - he wasn't going anywhere. That was a pretty full on mount/turtle setup.
The rest of the round is up for debate - but it doesn't matter how the fight goes it's how it ends.
GLuck B Vera, I hope to see you pick it up again but don't think you can complain too much about this even though I will admit, you looked unhurt, but you definitely weren't fighting back.

I am one of the "on the fence" guys when it comes to these fighters, I have no favorites here.
I agree Vera was not taking much damage, but turtling IMO is not an intelligent defense and I think the stoppage was "okay" not great, but not worth arguing about either.

Vera is admitting he had no way to get out from under Werdum's mount without waiting the round out. Um...thats not defending yourself, its not trying to advance your position. Thats giving up for 20 seconds. What would Vera done had Werdum mounted him earlier? Wait out two or three minutes? You can't curl up in a ball anymore and not expect the ref not to step in. All previous incidents aside, the ref made a decent call in this fight.

good post, someone finally makes this point, waiting out the clock and turtling from left to right is not intelligent defense...thats writhing

Wrong. Werdum is no where near as good as Vera in Kickboxing/Muay Tai.
People lose fights, it happens.
What I don't understand is why it's ok to bash certain fighters.
