Matt Hughes Knee Injury
Quote:
June 22nd, 2008
I found out my results, I’ve got a totally torn MCL that is still attached
to my femur. I’ve got a partially torn PCL. They really think that the PCL
will repair itself and that MCL has a chance of repairing itself. So we’re
going to hold off on surgery right now. I am going to get a second opinion
this week, so that might change; but for now we’re going to hold off on
surgery.
Got more news to come this week, so there will be another blog entry the
middle of the week. -matt

Sounds bad to me. I hope Hughes will be fit enough to compete in his last fight against Serra, or will this injury be enough for him to call it a day?

It's amazing to me just how fast his decline was. I mean this guy was good for so long. I think it's two fold. One, it's his style. He took a lot of abuse with the way he fights. Second: He never ducked anyone. It's not like some (note here I said "some" not all) other champions from various sports (BOXING) who had people behind the scenes that handpicked opponents. Hughes really does embody the "whoever you put in front I'll fight" attitude... maybe it's good to handpick opponents sometimes, for the fighter anyway. It all just seems really quick. One minute everyone is worshiping this guy. The next minute he's writing about mutilating pigs and blogging about multiple tears to his knee. And some of us our hoping for just one more fight, while others are calling for his retirement. Kind of sad.

Matt has never used any excuses for a loss.

All I know is the guy talks alot of smack *like were he stated that gracie was old school and was out of his league* to were he talked smack about serra and his injury and trying to avoid hughs in a fight, well it looks like the tables have turned.
It doesn't matter what people think of me but I can't stand that arrogant guy and he is even arrogant up to the point just before the fight starts.
He doesn't even jump around or loosen up, kind of like he is to good to even prepare.
Sorry but little things he says and how he moves just bothers me.
Yeah he can kick my ass but as far as I have seen he is washed up & I think the primary reason is, is because he is to arrogant to realize that he needs to change it up.

LOL...Hughes said he's got a "totally torn MCL," but they think it will repair itself. All I'm going to say is it isn't totally torn if it's going to repair itself. Ligaments don't just regrow or stretch out and magically reattach themselves to the other end. I know I'm nit picking...it's been one of those days...lol. Recover/Rehab whatever Matt...have the fight with Serra and then get out while you can still save face. Don't be one of these guys who just doesn't know when to quit. You've had a great career, but the game's passed you by.
