This analysis makes some pretty good points ..

Fight Analysis: Silva vs. Irvin | Fight Passport

Wrestling is Silva's weakness wrestling and he's fighting above his natural weight so I doubt he'll be able to take Irvin to the ground.

It'll come down to a Muay Thai fight and Irvin has serious KO power (as does anderson), but Irvin has been training in the Fairtex camp in Thailand ..

Givin the odds, I'll be throwing some money down on Irvin for sure ..

the thing is I dont think his wrestling is as week as it appears. He just doesnt mind doing thing that will get him taken because he knows he'll be fine on the ground. I mean he's throwing flying knees against an opponent everyone know is gonna want to fight on the ground

I am absolutely not predicting his demise. I think Irvin does stand a punchers chance at winning, but little more. I think any fighter can get caught, even Anderson Silva, but to me it will be a Ginormous upset if James wins.

This fight is a win win for me. If James wins then I will be happy for him and laughing at the wrench it throws into the UFC's gears. If Silva wins, then a fine MW Champion wins his first fight at 205 and we might get to see some other great LHW matchups with him.

BTW, I called Anderson Silva fighting at LHW many months ago. I was mostly pooh-poohed by people who said he was too thin to fight at LHW. I felt it was inevitable if he kept winning at 185, and my prediction has come to pass.

Yeah I believe I predicted the same. Back then a lot of people were hoping to see a match up between GSP and Silva, so they were rooting against Silva moving up to LHW..

So if Irvin wins, I guess he is the new best pound for pound fighter in the UFC.

Now why would anyone want to see Silva loose ,probably the same reason why they like to see Liddell win! Know what i mean.

I guess I'd buy that Irvin is Mediocre, or maybe at best slightly above average.

I dunno. I guess people will just start saying Anderson was too small for LHW. I dont necessarily think it would hurt Anderson's credibility as an unstoppable MW champ.

My question, I dont think anyone has addressed this yet....

Is Anderson going to vacate the MW belt for this fight? Or be allowed to hold on to it? Or will Irvin get it if he wins?

Is this some ploy by The UFC to play around with open weight type competition?

Depends on the outcome. This is what I think will happen.

If Silva wins I think he will prob move up for good and vacate.

If Irvin wins, Silva stays a MW with the title.

Its a non-title fight(Irvin vs Silva) so its nothing to do with the MW belt.

And it isn't a OW fight, its LHW and I bet they both come in at 205lbs. I don't think there will ever be OW fights. :(

You know, the more I think about this...how bad is this going to make Dana and the UFC look, with all their claims that Silva is the best Pound 4 Pound in the World, if a mediocre LHW knocks him off?

I see another win for Anderson. Seems like the main thing people are putting in Irvin's corner is that he has KO power... But it's not like this is the first person that Anderson has fought who has KO power. Henderson has awsome power, and Rich has shown that power in the past. He still pulled off very impressive victories over both, so yes; Irvin has KO power, but so did Henderson... So if that's the main reason people think The Sandman may take Silva out - I'd think again. What good is KO power, if you can't land a clean punch.

As I stated in the other thread.

A. Silva by KO 1st round.....:D

I'm sorry but thats my honest opinion, I don't think Irvin has any chance what so ever. I don't think he'll land anything on Silva.

But its MMA BABY!!! anything can happen. :D

I can't wait to see the odds.

I've always liked James Irvin. Silva is going down THIS YEAR and the Sandman just might be the man to do it. And yes, I know it's a stretch for James to win. Both fighters have said they want to stand and trade and James has more KO power than Silva imo. Silva likes to pick apart his opponents with precise well timed striking which usually leads to a TKO. James can knock him out with one punch. I don't dislike Silva but I do like parody and I'm ready for Anderson's streak to end.

Discuss.:)

I don't think personally that it's much of a stretch. I'm not convinced that Silva is a legit LHW, and I do think that when you're smaller moving up, it is a huge factor, but n ot so much so when you're a bigger guy moving down.

Although I totally respect and agree that Anderson seems to be u nstoppable AT MW, I do not think as you said, a one punch full force shot by someone like Irvin would be something a muc hsmaller Silva could take.

And Irvin's BJJ isnt too shabby either.

We'll have to see. And I just love that it's live AND FREE!

I just dont see how he has a punchers chance? What about A.Silva makes you think Irvin will ever hit him with a solid punch? I know hes larger and he caught Terry Martin and H alexander but those guys are brawlers themselves! Brawlers always leave their chin unprotected. A.Silva just doesnt let people hit him flush. Ask Franklin ask Hendo ask Leban ask Mardquart. The ref will pull Silva off Irvin early in the 1st.

I don't think Irvin has a snow ball's chance either, but anything is possible. Nobody thought Serra had a chance either but he clocked GSP good and it was nighty night. But, if I were a betting man, I'd lay this and nexts week check on Anderson.

I am missing the vitriol you claim to see directed towards Silva. In no way shape or form does anyone here hate on him like they do on Hughes, or even Big Tim. Not even remotely close in any way. Galaxies away from the Hughes hatin' that goes on here.

Just because I pull for Irvin over Silva doesn't take away an ounce of the respect I have for Anderson and his abilities. He is one of the best fighters in the world. I have nothing against him. I just want Irvin to stun the world and turn over Dana's little applecart.:D

Maybe vitriol was too harsh. I guess I constantly see people rooting against Silva, just to root against him. I'm not including you in that statement, I'm talking about other people who want to see Silva "taken down a peg". I just find that absurd because Silva has done nothing to garner that sort of response from anyone. People (and again I'm not including you) say they respect his skills, but then jump on the opportunity to predict his demise at the hand's of opponent X.

So I guess, he doesn't receive the same hate as Sylvia or Hughes, but the little hate he does seems totally unfounded...which seems worse to me.

Anti-Sanchez

You are wrong my friend. A brawler/striker always has a punchers chance regardless of who he's fighting.

The odds are slim but you can never say never when it comes to a brawler. They normally knock someone out or get knocked out themselves.

My statement was not exactly literal and even if it was those guys w/ KO power who have fought Silva b/4 didnt get it done w/ a punchers chance.....

Silva will win, but as I've said before, Irvin has the ability to take you out in one surprise strike (ask Terry Martin & Houston Alexander). What really confuses me are the people who constantly root for Silva to fail...

Like Fedor, he's the epitome of a champion. He hasn't had lucky calls, boring fights or any controversy. He just brings his raw talent and devastating power and bulldozes anyone he faces. I understand rooting for the underdog (I do it alot), but there just seems to be this vitriol towards Silva that I haven't seen anywhere else. Now, you could say Sylvia and Hughes had a similar gang of haters, but I think personality and style fed those feelings.

I will say, if the odds are good enough, I might be tempted to lay a grand down on Irvin in the hopes of collecting a big pay day. ;)

Regardless of what people are saying, this is a very interesting match-up. Silva has shown his Muay Thai brilliance, but Irvin is no stranger to Muay Thai. He hits like a freight train and he's considerably larger than Silva. I really can't wait for this fight.

Great post! I love seeing A. Silva as a champion.
He is a class act that never has a boring fight!
How can you complain about that?

I plan on going nearly all in on Silva, no matter the odds.
