Joe Rogan Vs Wesley Snipes
Okay, this one is fresh off the MMAWeekly radio show. How about Joe Rogan vs Wesley Snipes!!!!!!! Check this out, courtesy of MMAWeekly.com...
Quote:
Celebrity boxing did monster rating numbers a few years ago. It now appears a proposed Joe Rogan vs Wesley Snipes fight could do the same.
There was buzz of this rumor on several forums today and MMAWeekly.com has had this confirmed in the past hour. MMAWeekly Radio Host Frank Trigg talked briefly with Joe Rogan this afternoon to see if there was any truth to the rumor.
"It's 100% true..." Rogan told Trigg via the telephone. "I want the fight and now it's up to Wesley Snipes to accept." Snipes is a black belt in tae kwan doe, while Rogan competed on the east coast several years ago in various kickboxing events and trains regularly with submission specialist Eddie Bravo.
Rogan said on the Underground Forum earlier in the day quote "As for Snipes motivation to fight, he wants to rejuvenate his action movie career..." Other motivation for Snipes is the fact that he owes millions of dollars in back taxes. Snipes hasn't had any new movie offers and needs to pay back taxes and hopes this kind of fight could re-launch his career.
If you ask how they can afford to pay celebrities to fight, one of the possibilities that is out there is to give the Celebes a small percentage of the deal from the actual pay per view. Rogan would not comment how much money was offered to him for the potential fight.
The UFC had no comment about the story as they are preparing for this weekend's pay per view for UFC 56. At this stage only one party has agreed to the fight, but Snipes was very interested in the fight, as he is a huge fan of the UFC. In order for this fight to happen, Snipes has to agree to the deal as Rogan has already accepted the proposed fight. The other part of the equation is whether they both can pass the Nevada State Athletic Commission's official physical. If they can do both of these things, then this fight could happen sometime in 2006.

Why not? This is no worse than the Butterbean fights in K-1. Both have credentials, and while they may not be UFC material on the whole, it has pull power and maybe a fun fight.

Now are we talking about a kickboxing match or MMA? Well it either way it's silly but I would watch it just for a good laugh.

Snipes is in good shape, and has some MA skills. But, I think that Jolting Joe Rogan could take him in a MMA match... He's been watching MMA and commentating on it for a long time now. Some of that stuff had to sink in a little. Training with Eddie Bravo is a good idea--he knows BJJ. Seriously, it could be an interesting fight. Just don't count on seeing Jolting Joe working up to a title fight in the UFC, LOL.

I'm with you on this one.
It would seriously hurt the seriousness of the UFC and MMA in general. It might help some ratings, but some hardcore MMA fans would probably be turned off by it. It just sounds kinda goofy to me.
I definitely wouldn't spend money to see it.....

I admit that it is very gimmicky, but what about Fear Factor? I mean, that show is terrible, IMHO. I never really liked watching it, but that never impacted Rogan's UFC work. Rogan is also a pretty funny actor, and will likely appear in other TV shows and (possibly) movies. I don't really think that the UFC has that strong of a hold on Rogan... I am willing to bet that he has one of the most open ended contracts in the UFC. I may be wrong, but if Fear Factor does not impact the UFC, then I really do not see how a Celeb match would make any difference...

It's obvious that the two main matchups that need to happen are Van Damme vs. Segal or Van Damme vs. Zito II Oh man I would probably watch this (Rogan and Snipes) if it were on Spike but if it were on a PPV I would not purchase it. I seriously doubt this will happen Snipes is too old isn't he? And he is definitely not "The Natural" by any means whatsoever.

That's a good point. He does Fear Factor and that doesn't make him any less credible in his job for the UFC, I can't see this doing any harm.
I'm going with Rogan to win this one

Rogan was a four-time state Tae kwon do champion before pursuing a career in show business. Rogan earned a black belt at 15 after just two years of training. At 19 he won the US Open Tae Kwon Do Championship, and later as a lightweight champion went on to beat both the middle and heavyweight title-holders to obtain the Grand Championship.Rogan also trains regularly with submission specialist Eddie Bravo.

What's up with the invisible ink? Oh and also to see what I think about this just see the thread that Gygax started about it. Not to sound rude or anything, just saying that there is already one about this.

From what I've seen, Snipes is 43, Rogan is 38. So age is not so much of a factor.
A snippet that someone found for another site from FightingMaster.com .
Quote:
Wesley Snipes is a seasoned, trained martial artist in a number of different disciplines including Karate, Kung Fu and Capoeira, an African/Brazilian martial art. Snipes never approached acting from an angle like “wow, maybe one day I'll be using martial arts on films”. And even while he was training at the State University of NY in Purchase, he didn't try to include martial arts in the acting side of his life. But he has been training in martial arts since he was twelve. And he has trained in a number of styles, under some really great teachers. A lot of them come from Harlem.
Snipes likes a lot of fighting styles, each one for a different reason. He loves all of the Chinese systems for line and beauty, and flexibility. And now all of this ancient Egyptian and Brazilian and Indonesian stuff that he is training in.
He also trains in some African-born systems which are very deadly, where you have to train like cats fighting - wild cats in the jungle - jumping out of bushes and that kind of stuff. It is just like living in the Bronx or Brooklyn! Snipes doesn't have time for any pretty stuff. He prefers fast – strong, effective combinations.
Wesley has a basic philosophy of life that guides him through all the standard craziness. He tries to keep things very spiritual. That's a strong motivation for behaviour, and a discipline and a check and balance to all of this Hollywood stuff he is in.

I would be OK with this fight. It shouldn't be dead serious all the time. And PRIDE and K-1 have their freak-matches once in a while too.

Wesley Pipes would lose, I'm convinced of that. And then his movie career would really be over.
