"The truth about Zuffa's business acumen"

They only say Affliction is deep pocketed becasue of Trump.

This article reminds me of when Mark Cuban started HDNETFIGHTS (His MMA company), and how Zuffa should be worrie about Mark Cuban.

Cuban is doing well and to me has done an outstanding job showing the smaller shows on his network.

But he's not a "threat" to Zuffa.

Affliction?

Time will tell. Maybe, maybe not. But we've heard this all before.

whaledog.com: The Zuffa myth is getting ridiculous

Older article from 2006, but it best illustrates the 'Zuffa Myth'.

To elaborate.. Dana did not renew the prior agreement with WOWOW because he was certain that the UFC could either get on network TV, or Sky-PerfectTV, the main pay-satellite provider in Japan. Satellite has nowhere near the market penetration as it does stateside, but Sky-Perfect is THE name in Japan.

But, by dragging his feet instead of signing an interim deal, the Japanese public got to miss out on lots of UFC, including Japanese fighters making the cross-over, and former PRIDE stars fighting.

Really gave WVR and DREAM more of a foothold, as the public was still able to follow them. Big blunder on Zuffa's side there.

Great article. Expect to get a LOAD of flack for posting it though. It's all pretty accurate though.. Zuffa purchased SEG as they were falling, but after unified rules were passed.

As for why other promotions don't lobby? Why waste the money on it when Zuffa is out there doing it?

I believe the article says that they were trying to get unifed rules & such but it was zuffa that got it done.

Vince didn't make wrestling nor did his father but I do believe it was vince that made it what it is ;) from a non televised show to the first cable 7 non cable show.

The UFC just a week or two ago resigned a deal with WOWOW to broadcast UFC events to Japan. They had lacked one for over a year and a half.

That's another good tiein to the PRIDE line of the article.

Some good points, but he's also drinking Haterade a little bit, too. Hasn't stated anything that hasn't been stated (better) here.

Most of the key states sans New York are already sanctioned.. do you really think its smart to waste money so a state like (just example) north dakota can host UFC Fight Night?

That's the thing though if your riding someone coat tails don't expect people to be quick to put you as #1. If Affliction goes out and gets New York to legalize MMA in that state and puts on a huge show at Madison Square Gardens then I would be very impressed but if they sit back and watch Zuffa legalize it then come in later and hold an event than I wouldn't consider that them trying to be best.

The entire tone of the article is that Zuffa was just lucky and are nothing special as a promotion. The guy should of at least mentioned that Zuffa is the ONLY MMA company currently pushing legislation to legalize MMA in other states.

Not to mention that I can see huge difference between the production of the three companies mentioned and the UFC is home to all but one #1 fighter. They have a lock on the best WWs,MWs and LHWs and BJ is universally regarded as the best LW.

The UFC is long way from losing dominance in the MMA market and in some ways they are unfairly compared to competitors. Take the Affliction card for example everyone rants and raves about how stacked it was and the UFC doesn't put on that kind of quality but what if they were to have a card every 3 months like Affliction? Then they could have GSP/BJ/SIlVA all fighting on the same and I very much doubt ANY mma fans would miss that.

Interesting article (too long to quote the whole thing).
