Yeah, I never considered Leben's concrete chin when I was posting that. You have a good point but I still see the fight going to Baroni. We know that Leben has a hard head but he cut pretty good against Florian so maybe I'll change it from a KO to a TKO due to cut.

No new updates yet, but I wanted to say that I am glad that Mike Kidlion Swick will get to demonstrate his Swick-Fu on this card. And, he is facing a tough opponent in Jorge Rivera. A win over Rivera will really help Swick's career in the UFC. I wonder if he will KO Rivera in under 25 seconds like he did his last two fights. As much as I like Diego Sanchez, Stephan Bonner, Chris Leben, and Forrest Griffin... I like Swick ten times more.
- Tim Sylvia vs Ausserio Silva
- Stephan Bonnar vs James Irvin
- Chris Leben vs TBA
- Mike Swick vs Jorge Rivera
- Spencer Fisher vs Aaron Riley
- Josh Koscheck vs Jeremy Jackson
- Drew Fickett vs Jonathan Goulet

A lot of people might disagree here, but I think Bonnar and Irvin might be the best fight of the night.

Definitley. I love watching Stephan Bonnar fights.
The guy looks like a geek (I wouldn't say that to his face), but man can he fight.
Who did Irvin last fight against?

I've read in a few places that Mike Swick is injured again (knee). Rumor has it that Chris Leben will now fight Jorge Rivera.
Pride has Baroni under contract for 1-2 more fights and is looking to prevent Phil from returning to the UFC so soon.

Yeah, that does suck. Leben-Baroni and Swick-Rivera would be two great matches for this fight card. I hope that Swick is not injured...

Irvin fought and defeated Terry Martin at UFC54 or UFC55. I can't really remember which one to be honest, but he did it with a sweet flying knee to begin the 2nd round. I thought Martin did a good job in the 1st round though and might have even given the 1st round to him.
However, Irvin ended all doubts pretty quick in the 2nd round.
I agree, it may be the fight of the night, but I'm really looking forward to Sylvia/Silva. I know I might be in the minority here, but I'm a big fan of Tim Sylvia. He is a solid striker, and that kick to KO Telligman was awesome the last time he fought. I really want to see him challenging for the title soon. That being said, Silva is definitely no pushover. He will have to avoid the reach disadvantage or will get KOed quick.
Also, if Leben does end up fighting Baroni, that should be a punchfest just like Leben/Cote. And we all know that was the best fight at UFN1.
Real solid card.
Also, one more thing. I hope Swick defeats whoever is put in front of him the next couple fights. He seems underrated, and I want to see him and Leben go at it again in 2006.

I've seen a handful of James Irvin fights in the WEC and he has looked very impressive. He's 9-1 with 8 KO's. He has some serious punching power. His only loss was to Mike Kyle which I believe was in a Heavyweight match. He's now fighting at 205 which should really help his power. The flying knee against Terry Martin was incredible. He also put Rhino Marshall to sleep with some viscious knees.
Bonnar is a warrior and it's fun to watch him fight. He's got that "I don't give a crap attitude" and can that lead to some seriously entertaining fights.

Here are some current fight poll stats from the UFC website page for the UFN scheduled on 1-16-2006...
Tim Sylvia Vs. Assuerio Silva
Sylvia 87.6%
Silva 12.4%
Stephan Bonnar Vs. James Irvin
Bonnar 79.6%
Irvin 20.4%
It is interesting that the so many fans feel that Sylvia and Bonnar will win -- overwhelmingly the fans voted for them. I agreed, as I also voted for Sylvia and Bonnar.

I don't know if I think these fights will be one sided like these polls are indicating. Irvin is a tough dude and sure Boner has a chance to win it but I think James will pull off an "upset" (mostly to TUF fans, but the official odds will probably be much closer on this one)
Sylvia vs. Silva is the match I'm looking to. I think the only thing Tim has on Assuerio is the reach but if you remember he has faced very big guys before. He fought Aleks and gave him a hell of a match and lost a close fight. Aleks IMO is better than Tim so I see Tim having just the punchers chance on this one. The polls are silly because half of the people probably voted for Tim because they don't know who the heck this Silva guy is. Shoot even UFC had his pictures messed up on his profile. They don't even know anything about him!

That's funny, I saw that the other day, they had Wanderlei's picture under Aussuerio's name. What kind of idiots are updating that site?

yeah even with the changes to the UFC website it still isn't the best. I also heard that Melvin and Anthony for TUF 2 are going to be fighting and Spencer Fisher will fight Aaron Riley.

I go to the same gym that Bonnar works in when he is in Chicago, and I've seen him sparring. He looks pretty good, but he seemed to have trouble when he was rushed. He has to work on that, but I don't think Irving has a chance anyway.

I think Irvin definately has a chance. In fact, I think he'll win. I stated earlier in the thread that this fight just might be the fight of the night and I still think so.
