Default Who here has been to an event?

I was wondering if anyone who has been to a live ppv event could help me out.

I was just curious what it is like at a live event? What is the atmosphere like? Do they have boths and stands set up? Can you see the fights in the cage? Big screen? Lots of people? Any info would be great. I am planning a trip to Vegas and I was wondering if I should wait and plan around an event or not to bother. Weighing my options right now.

I know it's not the same thing, but i've seen a few WWE events. Nothing compares to seeing it live. The excitement of the crowd makes the fights that much better.

If they ever had UFC up here in Ontario Canada i'd go see it forsure. I'd probably go see UFC where ever if there is GSP vs. Hughes 2.

PLAN AROUND AN EVENT!!! UFC events kick ass. I loved it! Many, Many, Many fighters show up. The UFC is small enough that the fighters mix it up with fans. They love it as well as the fans do. It's not just a sport it's a lifestyle. You will definately enjoy it.

My Dad and I are planning to go to an event in the summer of 2006. I'm really excited. Then, after I graduate, a few buddies and I are trying to go to Japan and go to a Pride event. I doubt it'll happen but I'm almost 100% certain that the UFC event will be a go.

Definitely plan your trip around the event. You can not get a sense of the atmosphere or the fighters from your tv screen. The fighters are very approachable and fan friendly. Just being at the hotel where the event is happening that weekend is worth the trip. I am always amazed that some of the toughest people in the world are quite often the nicest guys away from the ring. The UFC experience was awesome and I am going to do it again next year... I can only imagine how a Pride event would be.

Its been almost ten years since i went to a UFC event. It wasnt anything like it is now, there were no weight classes and the winners kept going untill they lost or won. It was the Ultimate Ultimate '96 in Birmingham, Alabama.

It had Ken Shamrock, one of his first ufc fights since one of the very first few ufc's i think. He beat some guy horribly, but, since there was no glove rules back then and he went bare fisted, he broke his hand and couldnt go on.

Also, this is the one where tank abot tried to toss a guy over the rail of the octagon, didnt work but he wone anyway.

Kimo made his return to the ufc in that one too, but about 40 lbs lighter than he had been. he was about 220 or so and fighting paul varlins, from alaska, who weighed in at well over 300 lbs. varlins held him down and punched on him for a while, but, that was back before there were well rounded fighters and he didnt even attempt to get him anything that resembled a submission. (i think shamrock and joyce gracie were the only real submission fighters at that time in the ufc). Kimo ended up on top of varlins, pinning one arm behind his back and just dropping some of the nastiest punches straight to the face. I was about 6 rows out and could hear his head just thumping up off the mat. he only took about five of those before McCarthy stopped it.

the final match was between Don Fry and Tank Abbot. tank hit him with a few quick jabs and each one made a cut on frys face, it looked like he had slapped him with a couple of knives or something. But, back then, you didnt stop a fight for something as trivial as, oh....say, blood gushing into your eyes...haha. anyway, as tank usually does, he punched himself out and got winded and Fry choked him out to win the whole thing. i think he got like 100k for it.

the event was a blast to go to, fighters everywhere, most there to just watch. but, like i said, i havent went to one in almost ten years so im sure there are some major differences. one of the coolest things there, was that they had all the ufc ring mats from all the previous tourneyments hanging up from the rafters around the civic center it was held in. they were all still blood stained and just a mess, way cool.

anyway, sorry for the long post, but when i saw your question, it got me to remembering just how fun it was to be there and i thought id share it with you guys since the UFC today is nothing like it used to be. Some of the fighters actually fought 3 or 4 fights in one night if they were the overall winner. no weight classes, no time limits, no gloves, and the only rules were no eye gouging and not fish hooking...other than that, have at it. i dont remember who it was but in one of the earlier ones, some guy was just teeing off on a guys marble sack like there was no tomorrow....it made me nausious just looking at it. and i remember more than one fight being ended on a strategic head but, which was a very legal and lethal tactic back then.

anyway, thanks for getting me to remember all that, hehe.

Seeing the even live is very exciting and well worth the trip. It's like going to a playoff game in any other major sporting event. The crowd is totally into it.

The only booths I've seen setup are the ones selling UFC event merchandise.

You can see the fights but how well depends on how far away you are. Have you ever been to a basketball game and sat in the second level way at the top? It's the same feeling if you sit that far away at the UFC. I sat in the second level both times and they were decent seats. I'll post a picture from my seat at UFC51. I had to reduce it so I could upload it because FF will only let you upload a 39.1 KB file.

There are a bunch of big screens all around the arena. You can watch all of the live action as well as replays on them. The arena will be sold out.

If you do make the trip, make sure you make it to the weigh-ins the day before the fight. Get there early (bring your sharpie and something to sign if you want autographs) because there will be a LOT of people and fighters in the crowd.

My wife and I went to UFC 54 and it was unreal. We actually hooked up with Raidercraze and his girl and we had a blast. My seats were about six rows down from the top and we were able to see and hear everything. We also went to the weigh ins the day before which you HAVE to do if you are going to any UFC event. We met all kinds of fighters who were more than happy to pose for pics and sign damn near anything you want. It was actually refreshing to meet a professional athelete who was not pompus and stuck up. We met Chuck Liddell in the gift shop of the MGM Grand who actually thanked me for being a fan and coming to the show. I can't wait to go again. It was money WELL spent.

What kind of money do you guys drop to go to an event? I've looked into tickets before and seen that the cheap seats were about $50 while the bestter floor seats were $1000. Add in hotel, etc what did it cost you?

I stayed at the MGM for UFC 54. My wife and I flew in from New Orleans on Wednesday and left on Sunday. We paid just over $1000 for airfare, four nights hotel, and roundtrip airport transportation through Southwest Vacations. Best deal we could find. If you do go, stay in the hotel where the event is being held. You have a much better chance of meeting more fighters. My wife and I met Liddell, Horn, and Arlovski throughout the week in the giftshop and by the elevators. As for tickets, we bought the $50 seats and will do so again the next time we go.

Ya wen i turn 19, i get the ride to Vegas for a UFC event for my bday. Its not for a wile tho but i have been psyched for a wile. The intro to the events gets me pumped up to watch the show and i think it would be even better hearing the smack of fists or seeing a Nate Quarry knockout. The WWE events are better live but they cant even stand beside a UFC show. Im so psyched to see a UFC show.

Hey thanks a lot for all your input. I am definately going to plan around an event now. I will be looking to go to either 57 or 58 depending on time for 57 or depending on fight card for 58.
