Default Koscheck/Yoshida to headline Fight For The Troops.

Josh Koscheck vs Yoshiyuki Yoshida to headline ‘Fight for the Troops’ Dec. 10 at UFC blog for UFC news, results, videos, rumors, fights, pics and tickets — MMAmania.com

Quote:
USA Today today confirmed the complete line up, as well as talked to “Kos” about his big 170-pound showdown with “Zenko.”

Here’s a snip:

“I really [don’t] know too much about him. I just know he’s a pretty good judo player. And he comes to fight. For me, at the level that we’re at, I’m just here to fight whoever they put in front of me and try to finish him quick, get the victory and move one step closer to becoming the UFC world champion.”
Great fight, I can definitely see Koscheck getting a decision.

Looks like a decent night of fights but for what it is you think Dana could have brought out a least one big name for it. Guess he is about making money though.

I'm a little surprised by this decision. Koscheck is a great fighter, but imo out of every fighter in the UFC he is the one with the most skills coupled with the lowest popularity. Especially with Tim Sylvia no longer in the UFC. The choice to have him headline a card, even a free one, makes no sense to me. I'm also not sure why they are giving Yoshida a fight of this profile already. The UFC would be smart to start building some Asian stars. Especially with UFC events coming back to Japan. Okami's style makes that difficult. But Yoshida is perfect for it. To have him lose what could very well be a boring decision to Koscheck is counter-productive.

Should be a good fight, but on the whole this card does nothing for me. Here's hoping it'll prove me wrong with lots of top quality fights!

i say after koschecks performances in his last 2 fights not to mention against GSP he deserves to headline a free fight night card at the bare minimum against a quality opponent no less

why are we afraid to see a fighter lose? believe me, new fans dont lose interest in a fighter just because they lose and given kos' recent fights i doubt this one will be lackluster

newer fans dont jump on and off bandwagons as quickly as "hardcore" fans do

always remember that

What did he do against GSP? I just remember him on his back most of the fight grabbing his shorts to not get submitted. His fight with Hazelett was great, but that was a fight he didn't want on the ground for fear of being submitted. Most of the excitement from the Lytle fight was due to the blood. He's much more exciting than he used to be, but as soon as he meets resistance he reverts back to wrestling and weak GnP.

It doesn't matter to me. I'm just thinking in terms of good business decisions. New fans never gain interest in the first place if they see a fighter losing boring decisions. Or winning them.

Koscheck did pretty well for himself in that fight

left without a scratch on him, got himself a few shots in on GSP, took a few

slammed GSP once, made GSP work and looked confident the whole time

basically he didnt look like he had no business in the cage with him, so in my opinion that was a good fight for Kos

i dislike kos for beating diego as much as the next man, but i think Kos fights have all been pretty fun to watch aside from that diego fight

If that's how you saw it, fair enough. What i saw was a wrestler getting dominated at wrestling and hanging onto his shorts for dear life to not get submitted.

I think you are alone in that opinion.

Was that really necessary?

i think so, because you seem to be implying that Kos should have went to the ground with hazelett for some odd reason

i mean one-dimensional kos was workin ol dude on the feet

Well, for starters he took GSP down in the 1st round and won the round on 2 of the 3 ringside judge's cards. How many people can lay claim to that? Two, he survived 3 rounds virtually unscathed where his teammate Fitch was battered after 1 and everyone else lately has been finished before the end of the 2nd. Bah, I'm too drunk to keep going..

Bottom line is: I think Kos is probably the 2nd most athletic fighter @ 170 outside of GSP. Add a legit contender like Yoshida into the mix and you have yourself a UFN main event whether people know him or not. I have a feeling both guys are going to be flying all over the ring, kinda like Sanchez vs. Parisyan and obviously the UFC is expecting fireworks too. Don't give up on this one so quickly, I think it has FOTY potential.

Didn't Yoshida choke out War Machine? I don't really like Koscheck, but I see him winning this one, then likely getting a title shot.

I absolutely did not imply that. I was saying that the only exciting fight Kos has had recently was because it didn't end up on the ground.
