GSP and Matt would end up fighting anyways probably. Something like this:
BJ vs. GSP = BJ wins
BJ vs. Matt = BJ wins
Matt vs. GSP = ??!?!

I was starting to think I was the only one here who thinks that BJ is going to win these fights.

My money (or errr.. points) will be on GSP in this fight. BJ has got the tools to lay a hurting on anyone, but Trigg and Sherk also have some serious skills and GSP took them apart with ease. (not saying that Trigg and Sherk are on BJ's level but they are close). BJ has got some good hands but I still give the striking to GSP and when you add in the reach it a large advantage to GSP. Submissions I give to BJ but GSP has shown a tendancy to make his opponent's guard almost non exsistant. It would be very hard for BJ to submitt GSP and that is the only way I see BJ winning.
Now I am not saying that this is going to be an easy win for GSP by any means, but even at his best BJ is a little less impressive than GSP. And if BJ dosn't come in shape and ready to fight GSP will walk all over him.
And Meperson, it's not about a rematch with Matt, it about a title shot.

You make some good points. I obviously have to give reach to Georges but BJ has made a habit out of fighting larger guys then him lately. Now that he is going to go back down to 170 he is not going to look like he did in his last three fights. And don't forget a lot of people thought it would be very hard if not impossible for B.J. to submit Matt. Let alone even win against Matt. A LW coming up and fighting the WW champ. No way he's going to stand a chance.

I'm dead even on GSP and Penn. I'm not betting at all. Both guys are amazing.
But, when either fighter takes on Hughes, I'm betting on Penn or GSP.

Yeah I remember when he came up in weight to fight Matt, I don't think anyone gave him a chance. But I also remember that I thought that GSP v Trigg and GSP v Sherk were going to be very close fights. If it was just once I could say that maybe Trigg had an off day but then GSP did the same to Sherk. I think that the loss to Matt has made GSP bring his game to a whole new level. I don't think GSP will ever be caught in an armbar like that again. And I don't see a RNC being usefull to Penn, if he gets GSP's back, because the canadians all seem to be able to defend it without trouble and that is BJ's best submission.

Very true. I don't think it will be an easy win for either of them like B.J. did with Matt and Georges did with Frank and Sherk. If B.J. gets his back he is going to tap. Georges will have to worry more about preventing B.J. from getting his back to win the fight. He should not rely on defending it. I think Georges needs to work on takedown defense and hope to keep it standing and use the reach to his advantage.

I agree Jonny, GSP's best chance of winning is to keep it standing. BJ is really dangerous on the ground. I thing that BJ should try to lure GSP to the ground and then lock in a submission preferably one of the Fedor v Coleman style as opposed to a transition from the triangle choke because I believe that GSP will be ready for the triangle/armbar submission if he is on top.

No doubt Unknown. I have to say that the belly down armbar is probably the most beautiful submission out there. I think Fedor's was picture perfect but he could also pull it off Minotauro style on Mirko. That was amazing. It's just one of those things that can happen in an instant that could catch Georges off guard. Even if you are dominating on the ground if that gets slapped on it's over. That's another reason I think Georges needs to keep it standing because yes he does feel comfortable striking in the guard because he has such a reach over most of the smaller 170 guys I think that would be a mistake. He's going to have to really look to wear him down on the feet. Even more than he did with Sherk.

I couldn't agree more on the first statement. It's just too tough to call, and I'm not a die-hard fan of either but respect the hell out of their abilities. It could be the fight of the year, you never know.
However, when the GSP/Penn winner fights Hughes, I'm still taking Matt Hughes. I think he will avenge his loss to Penn for sure if he fights Penn, but GSP will be a little tougher for Hughes to deal with. GSP gave him trouble in their first fight, but Hughes slipped a beautiful armbar on him for the win.
I'm not saying GSP or Penn won't beat Hughes because it's very possible they will. I just know I'm not betting against Hughes for awhile.

I think this sucks that we got to wait even longer to see the Matt Hughs vs GSP fight. I dont think Matt is ducking anyone tho, matt is a champions champion and hell fight anyone. I am excited to see Penns debut in the octagon after a long break. GSP is good and i see GSP beating Penn. He can take out anyone in their game. Look at Sherk, the amazing wrestler, GSP stuffed all his takedowns and took Sherk down. If GSP beats Penn, the UFC will have a Couture Liddell rematch type ppv. Liddell took out Tito to get his shot. GSP took out Trigg and Sherk but now i guess hes got to take down Penn as well. This will definitely be a highly anticipated rematch tho.

I think they're just trying to build up the Hughes-St. Pierre rematch a little bit more...they'll be able to have it at UFC 60 probably, and I'm sure it'll headline the show...

I see your point and a win over Penn would help that, but what if Penn wins then GSP is screwed but I guess it helps build up the Penn Hughes rematch so either way it is good for Dana and the boys

It is great for the fans! If GSP beats Penn, then that makes the GSP-Hughes fight very interesting. If Penn beats GSP, then (like you said) the Penn-Hughes fight will have awesome hype. I really think that GSP will win! That crazy Canadian is on a mission.
