Default Respect for Bonnar

He earned it from me. I thought James would walk all over him. Bonnar is a better fighter than I thought. I don't think anyone gave him a chance.

I picked Bonnar in the UFC Fantasy thing, but I thought he would just mess around and win a decision. However, Bonnar was very active on the ground, trying numerous attempts at the Kimura before finally locking it in.

He probably impressed me more than anyone else tonight because Irvin is a solid opponent.

Bonnar looked a lot more active than he did against Hogar, and if he can come in shape, he is very dangerous.

What about Irvin too? That guy stayed in the Kimura far too long. I had to respect that as well. That was nasty looking.

Great win for Bonnar, and I hope they feed him who he wanted to fight, although I doubt Vitor will be back in UFC. I can still hope can't I?

Default Irvin

I can't believe how poor Irvin's ground skills are. You'd have thought after his last fight (having been repeatedly thrown down and dominated on the ground) he would have shorn up such a glaring weakness.

Back to the drawing board for Irvin I guess.

Bonnar was very good in this fight. Very methodical.

Cool

I have always liked Bonnar. This was a big win for him, and he made it a good fight. I think that he feels the pressure to prove that he is worth that six-figure contract that Dana White awarded him after his loss to Forrest Griffin. I have only seen the HL of the Bonnar-Lyoto fight, but I liked what I saw in that fight from both fighters. I would love to see the whole fight. I think that Bonnar learns a lot from each fight... :sport-smi

That was a crazy angle to work the kimora from. They both showed alot of heart, one by resisting the pain for so long, and the other for keeping the pressure on it. I'd like to know how much damage was done to the elbow and shoulder. Bonner said he heard tearing.

Bonnar was very smart to bring it to the ground. Glad he used his head this time around. I still can't believe how deep that kimura was and how long it was there.

People seam to forget that Bonnar fought Griffin and gave him all he could handle for three rounds. What I like about him is he is 6 ' 4'' and that is really tall for a LHWT.

I don't think it is as much of how poor Irvin's ground is as it is how good Bonnar's is. Everyone thinks Stephan is just a standup fighter because of the fight with Forrest. But he's really not. Bonnar played it smart, he got Irvin thinking it was going to be a war and then he took right to the ground where he had the advantage.

It was stated during the program that Irvin has only been fighting since 2003 with no previous combat experience.

I think it was another ocassion of the UFC hand picking someone that looked like a tough fighter that they thought Bonnar had a very good chance of beating.

I don't expect Bonnar to fight the top guys but I would like to see him fight a middle rung fighter like Van Arsdale and see how "good" he really is.

Bonnar is an expert in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, he also has a very good kyokoshin stand up. He has proven more than once that he is able to take a lot of punishment before going down. And the most important thing of all - Bonnar is a smart fighter. So he has all what it needs to be a very successful participant in the top MMA ogranizations like UFC and Pride.

And I believe Stephan won the decission against Forrest.

I think he is great on the ground but I wouldn't say he is a expert I don't even think he has a black belt In bjj but I am not sure of that..

I think he study Irvin and played it smart he knew he could take too many punches or knees from him so he took his hands and knees away by taking it to the ground
