Cool Georges "Rush" St. Pierre

I am always looking for more biographical information about GSP. It is interesting to note that he started martial arts because he was being picked on by a bully. And, that he was once a bouncer to pay the bills. He seems to have led a very interesting life. I honestly feel that he will be the man in the WW division and the champion.

Someone finally started a Wikipedia article on GSP.
Georges "Rush" St. Pierre (May 19, 1981-) is a French Canadian mixed martial arts fighter, currently a Welterweight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He has a professional MMA record of 12-1-0 as of March 5, 2005.

He started learning Kyokushin karate at age seven to defend himself against a school bully[1]. He learned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu after his Karate teacher died, and has additionally trained in wrestling and boxing.

He trains with Triumph Fight Team and the Canadian National Wrestling Team, among others. He is a former member of the BTT Canada MMA team.

He recently fought B.J. Penn at UFC 58 to be the #1 contender for the UFC Welterweight title. St. Pierre won the match by a split decision and will face current champion Matt Hughes in an upcoming match.

Although St. Pierre is a Canadian fighter, Pierre believes he is more popular in the United States than in his home country.
And, a link ("GEORGES ST. PIERRE Montreal’s MMA Warrior") from that article led to another that is fairly interesting. The article is fairly long and covers most of GSP's MMA career. I like this quote from GSP from that article:
"Even when Randy [Couture] lost two fights in a row, he was still my inspiration, because he came back and he beat Chuck Liddell and he beat Tito Ortiz and he became the champion. Some people are inspired only when a fighter is the champion. Not me. Even if he loses ten matches, he will still be my inspiration because he is a true warrior. He has a lot of courage and to do what he did – come back from two losses – you have to be a true champion: physically and mentally."
And, here are some nice shots of GSP in action:

I cannot wait to see more from GSP. We have to wait until after the Royce-Hughes fight. And, then it may be three-to-four months after that fight before we see Hughes-GSP. Hopefully we will not have to wait until 2007. Or worse, I hope that the UFC does not bring in yet another great fighter from the past to put between Hughes and GSP.

If the UFC brass does pull some crap like that, I say we get organized and boycott their asses!

I doubt that will happen. But, then again I don't think GSP should have had to fight Penn in the first place. I'm glad they did, but regardless GSP deserves this shot at the title. If he doesn't get the chance now, it would be a out-rage.

The UFC has said August or September is when they hope to have Hughes-GSP II. And there's no doubt about him getting the shot, because it was written into the contract for last night's fight. The winner was guaranteed a shot at the WW title.
