well, the first of these two non title fights was only due to riggs not beign able to make weight, or it would have been for the belt. this fight with gracie is more of an exhibition fight than anything else. its a non title fight that has no bearing on matts ranking, the title, or who he fights aftward wheather he wins or loses.

i do agree with you though, once someone is a champion, their fights should be for the belt, unless the oponent cant make weight.

I am not sure if anyone noticed, but with the Riggs fiasco in the wiegh-in and this Gracie-Hughes fight... Matt Hughes has not defended the WW title in eleven months now. By the time he fights GSP, it will be well over a year without a WW title defense. IMO, that is terrible. Any given title should be forced to be defended at least once a year or once every six months.

I know it was not Hughes' fault that Riggs did not make weight, but he is a champion. He should demand title defenses, IMO. I mean, if he wants to be considered a fighting champion. I wish the Gracie-Hughes fight was a title fight regardless of who wins.
