Default Maybe St Pierre should wait one more fight?

After watching UFC 58 and the BJ Penn vs. St Pierre fight, I personally thought BJ bringing out the belt was brilliant, and after watching the match, I am starting to think that even though I am a huge fan of St Pierre, I would rather see BJ Penn vs. Matt Hughes first because that has more history and will be more impactful on how it all went before at UFC 46 and then BJ not losing the title. I would actually like to see Lawler return to face St Pierre and I think that would be a great fight, and then St Pierre should get the title shot after that, what does everyone else think?

i think you are crazy...GSP is easily the next in line to fight Matt. with your theory GSP could very well end up fighting BJ again, say Penn were to rematch and win with Hughes. No way. GSP vs Hughes all the way. he has dominated everyone since he lost to Matt Hughes and it is GSP chance to be champion. As for Lawler, why? he is not even close to the caliber of St. Pierre.

I agree that GSP is the man to beat Hughes, I am a bigger fan for St Pierre then Penn by miles but I do think it would be better for ratings and money for Hughes vs. Penn. However I do see the fact that GSP deserves the fight and this is his time. Maybe I just really badly want to see Penn and Hughes very soon.

i think Penn vs. Hughes could very well be a great fight, the thing about it is that Penn did beat Matt and then chose to vacate the title on his own. Penn was given a shot at a rematch with Hughes but could'nt get past GSP. i don't think the UFC can afford to keep putting GSP on the backburner. he really is Hughes successor.

With all this talk of Dana and the UFC big wigs setting up fights for entertainment purposes, not for fighters that truly deserve it, I would hate to see GSP have to wait to fight Matt Hughes more than he alreaday has to. GSP totally deserves to get a chance at Matt.

As for Penn v.s Hughes, I think you are going to see it again, maybe not for a while, but after Hughes loses to GSP, Hughes and Penn will go at it and it is going to be explosive.

Penn vs. Hughes will be Matt’s next fight after he loses to GSP.

You're right. I bet everyone who always uses the "they make great business moves" line when someone would complain about Babalu not getting a shot or the fact that Tito is probably going to get a shot at Liddell first, would be crying their eyes out if they gave Georges some other fighter besides Hughes.

I'm a huge GSP fan, but even I can't understand why everyone is saying GSP will beat Hughes like it's a foregone conclusion! I would LOVE to see that happen, but Hughes will go into this fight as the favourite. He's the champ, and it's always that much tougher to knock off the champ. One question though: what happens if Gracie somehow manages to knock Hughes off? I'm pretty sure it's not a title fight is it? I'm not sure why the UFC would book that fight... too much risk for Hughes if he loses and not enough reward.. other to say that he's beaten maybe the best MMA in history. I sure hope that this fight isn't rigged just to boost Hughes' mystique.

u have a descent idea, but i dont think gsp would sit well for that if he had to wait on penn to get his fight with hughes, especially since gsp won the decision over penn....

Like I said the other night. That is a great idea. These guys should have like a round robin tournament or something. That would be so cool. No one is touching any of them though. BJ and Georges showed how good they are and Matt is the champ. There has to be rematch for BJ and Matt and BJ and Georges should have a rematch too. I'm excited just thinking about it.

Ok first to the whole topic, my response is NONONONONO, lol, GSP has dominated over everyone he has faced and its not like weak no name opponents, his victories keep comign against the top in the division. Trigg was top comp for GSP and he beat him, then Sherk was rumored as the next best and GSP ran over him, now Penn, hes got the title shot coming. I dont personally agree with Hughs vs Gracie, like i respect Gracie a lot but i dont think thats fair to GSP or Carl for that matter, i think they should make Gracie earn a shot. I see GSP gettin his chance in July or gettin a warm up match around July against a weak opponent so he can keep the ring rust off. GSP is obviously top after taking out the top fighters. I plan on seeing the fight soon

Well, if they block GSP again, then GSP should move to Pride. At any rate, GSP now knows that he gets his shot. They will not change that now. However, as much as I disagree, Royce Gracie could possibly defeat Matt Hughes. If that happens, then a Gracie-GSP match will be set up. Matt Hughes can then fight Penn...

If Gracie defeats Hughes, it has no bearing on either the title or the GSP/Hughes fight.

Georges could make 160. He said he was 185 before cutting. I think he's mentioned that he could if he tried to. Don't know how he'd perform but it's possible.

These darn non-title fights make me mad. I keep forgetting this fight is non-title. Why have two non-title fights in a row? Any time Hughes fights it ought to be for that title he owns...

in an interview GSP mentions the possiblity of moving up to 185 in the UFC. i think its from Grappling magazine or TapouT(formerly Bodyguard). GSP comes in at 170 very lean so making 185 is no problem for him. he even hinted at fighting at 205 someday.
