Just curious, any idea on what Franklin got paid for the UFC all access show, or if he did? Perhaps Dana is keeping Rich happy with things like that, and train like a champion?

Rich signed a stupid contract, it's his fault.

Technically your right, but remember Rich signed the contract before he was a big star and champion, so he was just happy to sign a 8 fight deal for any money. UFC knew what they were doing and that Rich was a star in the making. It was a pretty shrewd deal on the UFC's part. Dana "Baldy locks" White should step up and renegoniate Franklin's contract. So let's not blame Rich entirely for his contract situation.

I'm sure that Dana and Rich have a deal worked out over and beyond his contracted pay days. They're both professionals and besides it's none of our business how much he really makes. They're probably both laughing at everyone on the intraweb complaining about something that doesn't need to be complained about.
Everyone should be spending their time saying thanks to the UFC for putting on so many events this year and having great champions like Franklin, Hughes, Arlovski, and Lidell. If this was a couple years ago how many events would we have seen by now?? One! How many tittle defenses would we have seen?? Probably one! How many of these fighters would be bouncers at bars instead of getting paid to fight?

Dana is probably the only one who is laughing because he gets to keep most of the money that is made off the fighters.
I don't feel like I owe the UFC any thing special. It's not like they aren't getting anything out of the deal. Plus it's not there MMA didn't exist before TUF came along. What do you mean there would have only been one event and one title shot? Some of the fighters are still having other jobs while still training to fight.

Funny you say that because Frank Mir was a bouncer at a bar WHILE he was fighting because of how little UFC paid him!!

All I'm trying to say is that everyone is complaining instead of congratulating the UFC for doing an excellent job of bringing the fans what they want. MORE FIGHTS!
They were saying on MMAWeekly radio that Zuffa was losing something like 20 million dollars a year since they bought the UFC. I understand that without fighters there would be no UFC but there has to be some sort of balance before they can pay the fighters the millions they deserve.

Yea I know. You can't really blame the UFC for him wrecking on his motorcycle and breaking his leg. He missed a huge opportunity there....... He couldn't have wrecked at a worse time.

possibilities of accidents like that are why a lot of other professional athletes in sports like basketball, football, and baseball have clauses in their contracts that state they cant do things that might hurt them or make them unable to fulfill their contracts. ive read before that some of them cant ride motorcycles or go sky diving or they violate their contracts....

And that totally makes sense... They need to protect their investment.

Well all I'm saying is that there are some people who act like it is taboo to say anything negative about the UFC. I don't constantly bash on them and try to make them sound like an inferior company or anything like that. Just compalin about the things I want to see improve. Good treatment of the fighters is a big one and thats not the UFC's strongest point. If I don't like something we have every right to complain. If you go to a fancy restaurant and they serve you old, stinking food do you think you should still have to pay and thank the owners because they run a great establishment?

Read this interview with Rich Franklin:
http://www.wrestlingobserver.com/wo/....asp?aID=15670
Rich was asked about the pay scale for UFC fighters now that the sport has blossomed in popularity and how it affects him. "I signed my contract prior to the Ken Shamrock fight, prior to the TV show, prior to the title, and prior to my explosion in popularity. At the time I signed my contract, it was actually a decent contract for me and that kind of refers back to what we were talking about with Japan. The money that I made in Japan at the time was decent money. Now it wouldn't be considered all that great. Hindsight is 20/20, but looking at this now, yeah, my paydays aren't all that high. However, the UFC has kind of pushed me as one of their poster boys, especially in the 185 lbs. division. The organization themselves have been the ones to primarily market me. In that sense, I kind of owe all my popularity I guess to them. Yeah, I would definitely like to be making more money in my fights. And at this point, I am perhaps slightly underpaid compared to my popularity level, but UFC has always treated me well and I do believe that this stuff is going to catch up to me on the back end when we do a contract re-negotiation."
He said he has five fights remaining on his current UFC contract, including the fight with Loiseau this weekend.
"The thing with me is that I signed a contract with somebody so I'm going to stick to that contract. Yeah, I could sit back and complain about it. Anybody always wants to make more money. But the alternative for me is to be teaching high school and making $45,000, maybe $50,000 a year and I'm making way better money now. Who am I to complain? Like I said, yeah, I would love to make more money. Going back, my face has been plastered all over Spike TV. You can give credit to UFC for that. I've been on the cover of Men's Fitness. I've been featured in Muscle & Fitness. I've been featured in Stuff magazine. So I've done all these things with the UFC this year. That's not myself or my personal agent pushing me to get in that stuff because I don't have one. The organization has done a lot for me. That all in turn comes back on me. I have people that want to hire me for seminars, make appearances at smaller shows, selling t-shirts off the website, and stuff like that. I'm just one of those kinds of people, I don't get jealous about things. I'm not going to look back and be upset with the organization. They signed me to a deal, they got a sweet deal. They knew what they were doing. They signed me before I was popular and knew that they were going to market me because they had something good. But that's how business is. They were smart on their end. I'm not going to be like one of these athletes that after a year of doing real well, I'm out there demanding a whole bunch of money or I'm not going to fight. Even if I did that, where else am I going to go? I can fight for the UFC or I can fight for nobody else. You don't have many choices. It's not like a football player that demands more money from the Cincinnati Bengals and they don't want to pay him and he has 31 other teams in the league to choose from."

thanks, that shines some light on how rich himself feels about it. it goes to show how much of a standup guy he is to have the attitude he has towards a contract he says is underpaying him for his popularity.
man, 4 more fights left on the contract also....i sure hope he retains the title that long and can really renegotiate a great deal. i just dont see the ufc willing to pay him what hes worth should he lose the title before the contract is up....

Man I hope Rich didn't hurt himself too much biting his lip in that interview! He just wants to scream out "Pay me more money already UFC"!!! But he is a nice guy and won't bash UFC. But wow you can just feel his frustration with his pay scale from that interview!
