Agreed. Sometimes it takes a big embarrassing loss to get you on track.

Any great fighter will tell you that they learn far more from their losses. Mir found out the hard way that he wasn't octagon ready. It's one of those deals where the mind was willing, but the body wasn't able.
This guy was a champion for a reason. I kind of like the fact that people are counting him out, and forgetting about him because of a cut. The reduced expectations should make things a bit easier for him going forward.

I agree that the problem is physical. But, it is not just about a cut. Mir had real performance issues. His hips and legs were not doing what he seemed to want them to do... A few times he seemed unable to execute when on the ground -- like his hip was not swiveling correctly or to their fullest range. He seemed unable to get his left leg up above his hip when he was standing and kicking.

I think he came out wary of his broken leg, Cruz came out and went right for a takedown and I think Mir was unsure how his leg would hold up. then on the groud BJJ ran over his wrestling. I think Mir is a bada$$ and would love to see him and eilers. I think Mir would roll him but hey who knows.

I think Mir fought recklessly and didn't give Pe De Pano any respect and it cost him. Mir's bread and butter's BJJ. Why choose somebody better in BJJ than you to make your comeback? I think it was a bad choice by somebody to put him in there with Cruz. He should've fought somebody with little to no ground game...an "easy one" just to shake off the rust if nothing else.

I do not think that Mir had a lot of choice in who he was going to fight. How can they find anyone with less MMA credentials than Pe de Pano when he was 1-0 or 2-0 before the Mir-Cruz fight? Sure, Pe de Pano was a BJJ super-star and an Abu Dabai champion (six times, IIRC). That ought to have been a red flag to the real match-makers. But, we would all have been less impressed had Mir beaten Cruz. It was an impressive victory for Cruz. Now, he can claim to have beaten a former HW champion in MMA.
I agree that the match-makers were on a mental break when the arranged this match. Who is that anyway? Dana White? Zuffa? Don King? Vince McMahon? Who makes the matches in the UFC now? I know that fighter availability plays a huge part...

What's with the Cruz hate? You are very vindictive towards him like he has done something wrong to you. And how does he make UFC look bad? Was he supposed to let Mir win?

Geeez man, with the last 3 fights he had -- he probably is brain dead.
And that whole mullet look going into his fight with Vera might signify just that.

Mir is done; to say that he is ready to fight heavy contenders like AA is crazy. He was a great fighter but I believe that he is finished......but I could be wrong....

Mir has alot of work to do if if is ever going to be successful in the UFC again. to say Mir is washed up because he lost to Cruz is nonsense as well. Mir was beaten long before he stepped into the Octagon that night. he would have lost to anyone, even Justin Eilers. Mir vs. Buentello is another bad match-up for Mir. Buentello is a strong striker that is very good at causing a stalemate on the ground getting a restart standing. Mir vs. Monson is also a terrible match for Mir. Monson is stronger than Mir and very technical as well.

Mir has to have more pressure on himself then ever after losing to Cruz in his home town. But, I think he can make a good come back. I just don't think we will ever see the same Mir we all remember.

I would love to see Mir- Buentello! I feel bad for Mir. That accident jacked his career. Anyway he wasnt mentally prepared for Cruz. He said in pre-fight comments all he could think about was fighting AA. I think he will come back strong in his next fight. If that fight does happen, Buentello might have the edge standup, but Mir has the wrestling advantage on the ground. Sweet matchup. Expect a battle.

I feel bad for Mir too, but it wasn't the best decision, given his line of work, to be out on a motorcycle to begin with. It's really bad luck, and could've happenend to anyone. I just feel that he should've taken more care in his choice of leisure activities. Motorcyles are loads of fun, but also loads of danger. You always have to be on the look-out for "the other guy," and it only takes one little mistake on your part too. With him being the UFC heavy-weight Champion and all he should've avoided anything with potentially high risk involved.
