Default ufc celebrities - genuine fans or media glory hunters?

hi guys, with ufc becoming so mainstream and massive not only in the USA but also here in Europe its amazing to see so many celebs there.. i recognise that there are genuine fans such as the guy from king of queens and the guy from green mile ( excuse my not knowing names, hey im scottish). But over so many UFC events we have seen so many celebs there such as;

George Clooney
Richard Gere
Cindy Crawford
Leonard Di Caprio
Paris Hilton
David Spade
The Rock

Various FOotballers and Baseballers etc..

and many many others...
do you think that the people who attend are genuine fans.. i can hardly bring my self to believe why Paris Hilton woul dbe there, she clearly didnt seem interested at UFC60 and only started realy clapping after the Lister fight when she realised she was on the big screen.

That makes me think.. do they enjoy it or are they there for the attention?

I'm not sure about Paris Hilton but I'm pretty sure the others are big fans. Guys like Kevin James, Michael Clarke Duncan, Dicaprio, and most others have addmitted loving the sport. Quite frankly if they were only out for the publicity they could go to plenty of other events that draw more people than a UFC match. ie, Michigan vs Notre Dame, Bristol motor Speedway, the Giants vs the redskins, the Yankees vs the BoSox, etc.............

i agree with what u say, but some do go to other sporting events, it boosts cred going to ufc as it is an up and coming sport and to a certain level exclusive. i.e. its not fully mainstream or accepted by everyone the way baseball is.

I know they have been showing Cindy Crawford in the audience for years, she seems legit

Note to Dana: I could care less how many celebrities you have in the audience. I pay to see the fights - not a bunch of spoiled celebrities that you probably let in at a discount if not for free.

However, I thought it was hilarious when the crowd started booing when Paris was put up on the screen and she had this face that said, "Oh my God, are they booing at me???" Yes, yes they were.

ha ha yes the falsity is unbelieveable, i think showing celebs tries to glamoutise the event, real fans arnt bother who shows up or not.
i think ufc is fashionable right now

Man, I wanted to puke when I saw Paris on the TV screen. But now that you said people were booing her when she was on the big screen warms my heart. Hopefully she will never attend another one again.

That's sort of true but the thing about that is at a basketball or baseball game they aren't going to be interviewing them on who they think is going to win and the announcers aren't going to point them out several times and flash their names up on the screen. They definitely do get a little publicity from being at the events. I don't think that is the main reason though.

They must have to pay some of the celeberties that are at the fight because some of them are the most politicly correct punks in America. I would rather see some pro ball players than some of the wacked out movie stars. Any TV time and they want it....

i too don't care what celebrities attend UFC events. are they real fans? maybe, but i get the idea that some of them want to be "edgy". look at me!!! i am an actor but so on the edge and new that i watch UFC!!! its a way to set themselves apart from guys like Jack Nicholson who attend every Lakers Basketball Game.

LOL....Thought that this might be funny in light of the discussion over this topic.

Kevin James (King of Queens) training with Randy Couture at the UFC Training facility, getting ready for the Pebble Beach Pro-am a while back.

I think some of the stars might just go because it's in Vegas and I"m sure the after parties are a lot of fun too. That and the Casino's, shows, etc.

It was probably either go to UFC or Cirque du Soleil.....every sport has its bandwagon jumpers...look at any sport playoffs and suddenly everyone is a f#$%ken fan!
