Right on. That's what I'm thinking too. Diego is susceptible to punches, it's just that that's not Karo's strength.

He'll have a much rougher night with GSP or Penn. And I don't see him beating Hughes on the ground. Not anytime soon anyway.

3) Rnd 1: Sanchez 10-9, Rnd 2: Karo 10-9, Rnd 3: Sanchez 10-9 (Sanchez wins 29-28).

I thought Karo had it in the first two, but the man gassed and didn't avoid repeated jabs to the face. I have to give it to Diego, he earned that victory and should earn some respect as a result.
However I want to say put him and BJ on the card with Hughes and GSP for a shot at the winner, but with GSP beating BJ I think DIego needs to fight the winner and BJ needs to fight the loser.

With all the confidence that Diego has, I sensed a bit of uncertaintity when Joe Rogan asked him after the fight if he thinks he should get a title shot. Ultimately, Diego said he'd fight whoever but before he said that I thought he came across as perhaps it's a bit soon for him.

I don't think he is quite ready for a big showdown with Matt Hughes yet either.

At least a few more fights before then.

Sucks for Karo now. He had that title shot and now what? He's still there near the top, although his conditioning was off tonight. Does he usually gas like that in later rounds? It was probably Diego's intensity that wore him down.

Diego would be especially vulnerable to the KO from GSP. Matt would win a decision or TKO/submit Diego. Either way I think he would lose to either one.

Did anyone notice how much vaseline they had on Diego? His face and forehead were completely coated in a thick layer. Is that allowed?

I think Diego could beat Matt the same way B.J did.I told yall he was sick on the ground. B.J and GSP are in a whole different league and could beat him at his own game easily.GSP could beat him standing, and match his level of intensity.Penn would let him take him down, and sub him like it's nothing.

yeah i think out of the three Diego would fair better agianst Matt Hughes. i think if GSP beats Matt hughes Diego is in trouble. if Matt holds on to his title he has a shot and i think he has a decent shot. i also think Penn would be a bad match up for Diego right now. Diego will need that big win to go threw someone like Penn. beating a Hughes or GSP would do that for him but thats a mountain to climb in its own right. Sanchez is top level talent and he proved that tonight but now theres another big step to take and thats experience. the next 3 guys he's face down with have been doing it for a while and there the best of the best

I give Diego Sanchez a lot of credit for his performance tonight.

I never thought he would win this fight but again I am wrong. I am excited to see who UFC will match up with him in the future.

I dont think so. Most of the time when a fighter has to much vaseline the ref tells the corner to clean it off. I dont think it was much of a big deal though, Diego proved me wrong.........again! I thought the fight would be close and have Karo pulling it out. But Diego's conditioning was superb. The thing that Im thinking about is in the 3rd round when Diego knocked out Karos tooth. The tooth wasnt chipped, it was knocked clean out, root and all. That is one helluva shot. Props to Karo for toughing it out.

Damn, I keep thinking Sanchez isn't very good (at least not as good as he thinks he is) and he keeps on winning. Unlike most of the posts I've read, I now think Sanchez would give GSP or Penn a run for their money. Hughs, however, would destroy Sanchez. I just don't see Hughs losing anytime soon, not even to GSP (but we'll find out fairly soon)...

I though Karo was wanting to quit (the ref also kept asking) after that uppercut that cut him under the eye. He was squinting and looking at the ref, had me worried in the beginning. Then it seemed he regained his composure, started working again, had a couple of those awesome Judo throws. Sanchez kept constant pressure on him, made him gas, and over the entire fight pretty much beat up my favorite fighter to watch. I really didn't see it coming before the fight. Hats off to Diego the weird guy.

I thought he was trying to tell Big John about an eye poke.

It wasn't an eyepoke,I watched it about a dozen times, and it was clearly an uppercut right to the eye socket, which will impair your vision just as bad.

It just really messed up Karo mentally.
