What makes more money?
UFN Nights or PPV?
This question has bugged me for quite some time. I mean we know with the PPV they make more money on the live gate, and they have been selling up around 300k PPV's. But during the UFN's they have the commercial revenue. I dont know exactly how much it is. But I know it has got to be A LOT. Plus they have a decent live gate, I think about 5k. I am almost 100% positive a PPV event makes more money, but I doubt its by that much money. Anyone know?

I'm sure the PPV do or they would have UFN every month or so instead of PPV. I think UFN are ways for them to increase their fan base and advertise for the PPV all in one.

oh yeah i agree, but I am guessing the variance between the two is that big of a number. I mean eh advertising dollars is HUGE.

i think at the moment PPV brings in more dollars per event. the UFC has a pretty good idea how many PPV they will sell and can plan accordingly. a free event that is all paid for by advertising will eventually exceed any dollar amount that PPV can bring in. look at the NFL and other professional sports, they bring in billions in TV deals and advertising. perhaps oneday the UFC will be able to do the same. of course the UFC has a pretty narrow viewing audience. i think its mostly 18 to 34 year olds. then again, a free event brings in more new fans who would'nt pay for a PPV.

It really comes down to is how good the ratings will be for SpikeTV. SpikeTV makes the money selling the ads. The better the ratings for things like UFN, the better the next contract for the UFC. I hear the cable ratings for TUF and UFN are blowing away the competition. WWE still has monster ratings with USA and I am sure they make a killing with all their RAWs, Smackdowns, etc., but they still do PPV. I doubt the PPV will ever go away, but you may see much better fighters on the free stuff. UFC just needs to continue to get fighters that ppl want to see.

I have to disagree with you about the viewing audience age Crashsti. Im 15 and at my high school i havent talked to a single guy who hasnt watched/loved the UFC. I think the fanbase age gets bigger all the time.

I think UFN, as they actually have to pay the PPV fighters fairly decently. Lower overhead from smaller venues and low wage fighters.
